Join us on June 11th for the launch of the Campaign for the Old City Arts Building (COCAB). Our aim is to take back the Old City Arts building, 23-25 Mosse St (near Tara dart station) which has been abandoned for nearly a decade and is now part of the National Assets Management Agency (NAMA). We want the building to be opened up for use as an educational and cultural space, managed collectively by anyone who wants to take part, independent of private or state institutions. We also want to broaden this by demanding that the NAMA legislation be changed so that all disused NAMA buildings can be used by the citizens for social and cultural projects, social housing or (in the case of undeveloped land) community gardens. It is clear that the politics of ‘elected representatives’ has completely failed in the context of the crisis- only people power and direct action can bring real change. read full story / add a comment
A Uachtaráin, a chara,
On behalf of Republican Sinn Féin I wish to place on record our opposition to the invitation which has been extended to the Queen of England to visit Páirc an Chrócaigh.
We object to this visit on the grounds that a visit to any part of Ireland by the head of the British State is inappropriate while that state continues to occupy part of Ireland

Pyjama Girls isn't your typical commerical release. Its a film which deserves a space on Indymedia.
Pyjama Girls, a new Irish documentary by Maya Derrington that examines the lives of two of Dublin’s ‘pyjama girls’, will screen at some of the country’s most prominent cinemas as part of a DIY distribution campaign. The film sold out its week-long run at Dublin’s IFI and was moved from the smallest to the largest screen after one day. IFI director Sarah Glennie says “the film attracted a new audience profile to the cinema – it’s pyjama mania!” read full story / add a comment

Support the call for a full prosecution of those who destroy our heritage. About 35,000 ring fort sites are currently identifiable in the Irish landscape – they are clearly marked on Ordnance Survey 6“ maps.
Of these, only about 250 ring forts have so far been subjected to archaeological excavation. How many we retain protected and preserved is up to us. Write letters to Gormley in support of the call from the Friends of the Irish Environment to bear the full weight of the law down upon the people responsible for this destruction.

Dear Prime Minister Cowen,
Over the course of the past three (3) years, I've written you, Mr. Gormley, the members of Dáil Éireann, the Meath County Council, archaeologists at NUI Galway, UC Dublin, UC Cork, The Heritage Council, The Discovery Programme and the OPW on numerous occasions regarding my research paper, 'Orthostat, the Mound of the Hostages'.
The purpose for doing so was to convince The Heritage Council, The Discovery Programme & OPW to complete the geo-physical mapping of Tara, which I have no doubt will confirm the hypothesis set forth in my paper, that the symbols carved on Orthostat L2 within the Mound of the Hostages, constitute a map of the Hill of Tara, as it existed during the Neolithic Age. ( ca. 3200 BC)
The response I received from The Discovery Programme was that "no one here is compet read full story / add a comment

Here is the TSV on Sunday. We are told that destruction will not happen in this valley anymore, we are told that our heritage is safe but my walk yesterday shows that things have simply got worse.
Please become involved and stop the rape of our old green land. It is reaching appoint that soon it will be too late. We look set to lose all our old mysterious, wild and fallow places.
