For Immediate Publication.

This is the second year that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presence at the UN is causing a storm of international protests. Last year, it was primarily due to Neda Agha-Soltan’s murder in broad daylight at a Tehran protest and this year it is the Iran stoning case of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani.

Last year, under public pressure, Ahmadinejad outrageously declared that Neda had been killed by protestors rather than the regime’s own security forces. This year, he has outrageously announced that Sakineh was never sentenced to death by stoning. The reason for his absurd claim is not that there is any truth in it but because of the massive international protest movement against stoning and executions in Iran led by the International Committee against Stoning and the International Committee against Execution. read full story / add a comment

The rarely seen Michael is about inspiration, about love and lust, about getting old, about friends who become lovers and lovers who become friends... To put it in two brush-strokes: this is a film about artists, and a proudly arty film.

Enormous instability remains the key feature of the political and economic situation in Ireland. End the cuts & bailouts! Let the bankers pay for their crisis!

Protest against the government at the re-opening of the Dail starting from Anglo Irish Bank, Stephens Green 29th September 12.30 pm.

The 29th September marks an international day of protest that has been called by the European Trade Union Confederation against the policies being pursued across the continent making working people and the unemployed and anybody who depends on public services pay for the economic crisis. The day will be marked by a general strike in Spain and mass demonstrations organised by the trade union movement in the rest of Europe.
