The anti-immigrant Danish People’s Party, which has seen gains in popularity following the attacks of 11 September and the controversy about cartoons of Muhammad published last year, has lost 2.7% of voters' support in the course of the last month.

This is one of the results from an opinion poll conducted by Catinét Research for the Danish news agency Ritzau between 13 and 17 March.

The Danish People’s Party's member of parliament Louise Frevert is one of a number of Danish politicians who have played a key role in inflaming Muslim concerns with a comment on her website that “the Muslim menace ... can be compared with a tumour which we know will kill us, if we don’t find and annihilate it before it spreads.”

Please read my translation from an original Danish article below. read full story / add a comment

Irish neutrality is an area that has long been mis understood and mis-interpreted. The majority of people are very opinionated but know very little on the subject. Our Government has made decisions that will affect us without any referendum or regard for public opinion. But were we ever really neutral? The time has come for the Irish people to make a decision. read full story / add a comment

Now with Hamas’ electoral gains in the Palestinian elections, Israel, from a position of strength, can decide if it wants to inflict an economic blockade on the West Bank and Gaza.
“It's like an appointment with a dietician. The Palestinians will get a lot thinner, but won't die,” was how top Israeli government adviser Dov Weissglas recently described how an intensification of a blockade could affect ordinary Palestinians.

The PDs' announcement of a plan to move Dublin Port comes at an interesting time, when the Dublin Port Tunnel (an integral part of the expansion plan implemented by the Dublin Port Authority) is nearing completion. This article reveals that the idea to relocate the Port is not an original creation of the PDs': in fact it goes back to 1990. But why, in spite of a set of logical reasons in favour of the move, was the plan put on the back burner in favour of the construction of the multi-million Port Tunnel and minor upgrades to the port facilities? read full story / add a comment

A well dressed male in his fifties, dressed in a tweed sports jacket and trousers, wearing a hunting or fishing hat, which seemed outlandisly old-fashioned stalked me from the bank of ireland through the Swan Centre , except that I only became aware that he was doing this when I got to the most mundane of places, the fish counter. The place to discuss the price of fish and smile in to your eyes, to grab your hand and hit on you. Fair enough, let go my hand. I don't want to go for a coffee, in fact I have an appointment. The grip on my hand got harder and he kept eye-contact as he ground my ring into the bone of my finger. There we are standing in a crowded shop in broad daylight and he is getting his jollies by studying minutely the change in my face from friendliness, to awareness,to fear.
He wants to capture that and take it home with him.I ripped my hand away and
continued shopping, he followed me through three aisles. Why didn't I shout, or land him on the floor or ask for help? I still don't know the answer to the question.
I reported it to the manageress , who gave a descrition to security guy, who stood watching me pack up and walked me to the door. He tells me to get a cup of tea and come back . They will pull the cctv. Thanks security guy. I returned with a friend an hour later. I haven't heard anything since. I suppose that it looked almost mundane on the footage. read full story / add a comment

The Police have brutally repressed the revellers and have in the last hour resorted to clearing the old city with rubber bullets.
