Early morning raids on houses in Dublin and the Holding Centre in Mosney resulted in the deportation of 60 'failed' asylum seekers to Romania and Moldova this morning. The Gards accommpanied them over to make sure they are delivered safe and sound into the hands of the Romanian police. Our Guardians of the Peace are probably preparing to make the journey back to Ireland this afternoon having aided in the forced transportation of nameless, faceless individuals who will be remembered (for about a week ) as the 'failed asylum seekers'. I can't help feeling that it is us who have failed these people. read full story / add a comment

This Saturday the 14th of February, the Dublin IPSC are holding a Month's Mind commemorative demonstration for British peace activist Tom Hurndall, who was killed by an Israeli soldier while helping Palestinian children to safety in Gaza. Tom was shot in the head and lay in a vegetative state for nine months before passing away on the 13th of January.

We intend to commemorate Tom, and indeed the many innocent Palestinian victims of the Israeli occupation, by gathering at the top of Grafton Street at 12.30pm. Anyone interested in helping carry placards etc are asked to please be at the IPSC office (address above, ring East Timor Campaign buzzer and we're on the 3rd floor) at 12 noon sharp. Any queries, directions etc, please ring Irene on 087 207 2187.

We hope to see you all on Saturday. read full story / add a comment
