Schools throughout Ireland are preparing for a bet with the government to highlight that more can be done to reduce harmful emissions of greenhouse gases in Ireland. The schools will bet with the Department for the Environment that they can reduce their energy consumption (hence CO2 emissions) a rate faster than the government proposes for the country as a whole. An 8% reduction in eight months as opposed to the government’s target of 8% in eight years was set for the schools in this year’s environmental project ‘the Irish BET’. read full story / add a comment

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign will be holding a vigil outside the Israeli Embassy from 6.00 - 8.00pm this Tuesday 16 September in memory of the victims of the Sabra and Chatile massacres 21 years ago. The vigil will also call for international protection for Palestinian civilians, who are still falling victim to Israel's war machine. read full story / add a comment

Background: Adults returning to second chance education were stunned recently with the removal of their child care allowance. The decision appears to have been made overnight to scrap the allowance by the Department of Education with no warning to the people availing of the payment. Already Colaiste Ide (the CDVEC school providing adult education full time courses in Finglas) has had students dropping out as they cannot afford to pay for child care. read full story / add a comment
