Paul Murphy MEP will be organising a city centre 'Day of Action' against forced labour schemes such as JobBridge, Gateway and Tús. there will be banner drops, leafletting and collecting signatures for the scambridge.ie petition against these schemes and in favour of the RealJobs programme. That is, If you are into reading about how our lords and masters and their capitalist friends are taking us for a ride at our own expense and the loss of what should be very basic state run services that should never be run as for profit services. The term ‘gentrification’ was coined in 1964 by sociologist – Ruth Glass. She defined it as a change in the social structure and housing market in working class areas. She explained – "One by one, many of the working class quarters have been invaded by the middle class - upper and lower ... Once this process of 'gentrification' starts in a district it goes on rapidly until all or most of the working class occupiers are displaced and the whole social character of the district is changed" (Glass, 1964, p.xvii). read full story / add a comment |
