What next for the Campaign, now that the new Corrib Gas Forum set up by Eamon Ryan and Éamon Ó Cuiv will not “revisit existing consents and permissions given to the project”?

What next, when "Governments around the world are waking up to the reality that natural resources are soveriegn assets and that it is entirely within the rights of the state to readjust taxation and royalty deals in times of windfall revenues or supply concerns" (Michael McCaughan, The Price of our Souls, Gas, Shell and ireland) read full story / add a comment

On the day that 1983 Long Kesh Escapee Pól Brennan will go to court in the USA to fight for his release, West Tyrone Ógra Shinn Féin have sent a message of solidarity and called for his “immediate freedom so that he can fight his deportation freely and fairly.”

Pól Brennan has been imprisoned in US jails from January this year, because when he was stopped at a routine road block, his work permit had expired. Pól is not undocumented and has a work authorisation permit in the system since 2006, but he has neither received or been refused the permit.

What began as a simple bureaucratic misunderstanding was soon escalated by the US Homeland Security who has also activated a deportation order for Pól. This completely ignores a US court ruling in 2000 which allowed Pól hearings for political asylum which are still ongoing.

Recent images taken in the middle east etc are included, but we will not display the more graffic ones in the church, such as the aftermaths of suicide bombings etc.

On Monday 10 November US a US Air force executive jet, reg no 40109, a learjet 35 or a C 21A in military terminology, was being refuelled at Shannon airport, while being protected by a special garda escort. We dont yet know who the passengers were, but such luxuary transports are not for one star privates, they are normally reserved for one star generals and upwards. Some of these generals have been guilty of war crimes in Afghanistan and Iraq. It is most likely that the Gardai did not search the aircraft to ascertain if any war criminals were on board. read full story / add a comment

Thirteen years ago today, on November 10th 1995, nine men from Ogoni land were hanged at Port Harcourt prison Nigeria. They had been tried in a military court by the Nigerian dictatorship. One of the men, the famous human rights campaigner Ken Saro Wiwa had been a particular thorn in the side of the Shell oil company, which found itself unable to operate in parts of the Niger Delta because of the work organisating people to peacefully resist against their destructive activities.

In stark proof of who controlled Nigeria at the time, his family had been told by Shell executives that he would be spared if he would help the company. Saro Wiwa preferred to die with honour. read full story / add a comment

Statement issued by Cyclist.ie on behalf of Dublin Cycling Campaign, Cork Cycling Campaign, Galway Cycling Campaign, Limerick Cycling Campaign, Maynooth Cycling Campaign, Skerries Cycling Initiative and Waterford Walk Cycle Campaign. These Irish cycling lobby groups have combined to form a new umbrella body, "Cyclist.ie" Its main concerns are ensuring a dramatic improvement in road safety and traffic conditions for cyclists. It views the realisation of these aims as vital to facilitate a marked increase in the numbers of people choosing the bicycle as a means of daily transport. read full story / add a comment

Cork Lord Mayor Brian Berminghan (Blueshirt Party) has organised a fun evening in remembrance of Irishmen deluded into fighting for the British Empire. They got sense after being ordered to stop machine gun bullets and after the 1916 Rising. Cllr Birmingham has yet to get his. Hopefully this disgrace to the 'rebel' county will be answered, and soon.

There are 161 people in this country looking for a new political organisation. Sadly agressive little mobs
have an ability to re-structure and re-group at enormous rates of rapidity. They will not be doing so in time
for the next set of elections:

The Sunday papers will busily eulogise on her contribution to Women's Politics, whilst it is evident
that she has dealt women's health issues a cancerous body blow. She copper-fastened the most
brutal econmic inequality and two-tier approach to women's health since the foundation of the state.

Let's be frank about it, Mary Harney's Genital Warts story is a shame crying out for a tongue wagging.

As the most cultured amongst us know this year's Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology was shared by scientists in that trade who have made inroads in the virus research lark. One laureate managed to link up the HPV group of viruses with cervical cancer & before you could say "love me warts and all" most European states decided to vaccinate young wans against only 3 of the near 100 strains of HPV or "genital warts" a virus which indeed doesn't always produce warts...........it being a sly killer and all. read full story / add a comment
