Jonathan Cook in an Electronic Intifada article addresses the phenomena of a book 19 weeks on Israel's bestseller list that challenges Israel's biggest taboo. The Irish Republican Youth Movement, Ógra Shinn Féin, have said that they are committed to campaigning for the immediate release of 1983 Long Kesh Escapee Pól Brennan, who has been incarcerated in a US prison since January this year. They said they will be stepping up efforts to highlight his plight in the time ahead, which includes two ‘Free Pól Brennan’ vigils on Tuesday 14 October, one at 6.30pm outside the GPO in Dublin and the other at Queen’s Student’s Union in Belfast at 7.30pm. read full story / add a comment

"Alarming concern has been expressed for the continuing medical condition of republican prisoner Aidan Hulme in Portlaoise Prison. Following a visit from a doctor it was observed that Aidan's toes on his injured leg had turned black giving rise to fears of possible gangrene. The doctor relayed to the Prison Governor that Aidan should be seen by a consultant in this field as a medical imperative. The Governor has stated that Aidan's case would be prioritized but as of yet no decisive action has been taken. read full story / add a comment

HOPI London will host a meeting on October 8th: 7pm @ Kings' College Campus, The Strand, London which will be addressed by two leading members of the Iranian student organisation 'Iranian Students for Freedom and Equality' http://www.azady-barabary.org This organisation was central to last December's inspirational anti-war, anti-regime demonstrations in Iran, which led to the arrest of over 70 activists. At these demonstrations, slogans such as "No to war!
