Yesterday, activists from the Irish Centre for Human Rights, NUI Galway, Permanent Revolution, Free Palestine Campaign, ably aided, abetted and filmed by students from the Huston School of Film & Digital Media did a nine hour slog in Shop street for the Raytheon 9 and Palestine. The venue for an all day celebration of the Tara valley is Tailor's Hall, Back Lane , Dublin 8.

The organisers, which include the Tara Valley Groups have booked the Tailor's Hall
for a family day with information stalls, AV and Powerpoint information and talks,
and a childrens area which will include food, face-painting and bi-lingual talks on
myth and legend. There will also be a treasure hunt for the kids, but adults may help out

In mid April, Cork dock workers took action in support of the crew of The Defender, a cargo ship owned by Forestry Shipping from Riga, Latvia but registered in Cambodia. The Defender had nine crew on board and was carrying cargo for delivery in the Cork area.

The European Union has criticised the mass expulsion of Romani from four provinces in the Italian state.
12,000 families including children are moving north through italy and facing summary expulsion.

it's called hate crime.

For three days in Naples, Shanties and encampments have been subject to mob violence.
This is after the media-owning Mr Burlusconi and his friends decided to abuse citizen rights in an act of expulsion

'Route Irish' a feature length essay film on the history of anti-war movement in Ireland from 2002-2007 will screen at King Street Arts ( http://www.kingstreetarts.com ) during the West Belfast Feile.

The screening will take place on Tuesday 5th August at 8pm. The filmmaker will be in attendance to introduce the film and chat about it afterwards.

King Street Arts is located at 48 King Street, Belfast. The website linked to above includes a map indicating its location.

A group campaigning against the Lisbon Treaty has claimed that people are being kept ignorant about what is in the treaty.

The People Before Profit Alliance has launched its campaign calling on people to vote No in the upcoming referendum.

The group says it will be distributing thousands of leaflets and canvassing doors in 15 constituencies as part of its campaign.

92 years ago, the British government murdered James Connolly for his participation in the anti-Imperialist rebellion of 1916. Shot while tied to a chair by a firing squad. He was a founding member of the Labour Party and a member of its executive when he was shot.

This article from the LA Times by Bill McKibben presents the case that the situation with the Earth's environment is far worse than has been admitted so far and he reports on the latest scientific paper from climate scientist James Hansen which in the opening paragraph he says:

"if humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on Earth is adapted, paleoclimate evidence and ongoing climate change suggest that CO2 will need to be reduced from its current 385 ppm to at most 350 ppm." read full story / add a comment
