Syttende mai (May 17th) is celebrated by Norwegians in Dublin to mark the anniversary of the signing of the country’s first constitution, and independence from Sweden.

Of all the countries in the in the world, Norway has one of the highest standards of living. To a great extent, this is because of the country’s natural resources, which are carefully managed through the state company Statoil.

Statoil owns a chunk of the Corrib gas field and is working on getting more gas from under the sea off the west coast, so Ireland's natural resources are also playing their part in raising the living standards of the Norwegian people.

Once again this year, activists from Shell to Sea joined in the festivities, distributing flags and leaflets to the Norwegian people and raising awareness of the fact that the Irish establishment are not doing such a good job of looking after our natural resources. read full story / add a comment

Outraged but not surprised at, what amounts to a mainstream media/political parties cosy conspirancy not to make Ireland's aiding and abetting of the attack on Iraq an electoral issue, two anti-war activists, early today, took to Galway's streets to say our piece through paint brushes and the ad-busting of Ahern's election placards.

This is just a short Opinon and analysis, because details are sketchy and
the Irish Times has the story. COSC was set up rather rapidly by the Dept of
Justice in the run-up to the General election.

It involved a reply to the burgeoning problem of violence against women
and was set up under the aegis of 'Equality'- there seems to be a problem
with the issue , as last night a press release from combined Violence
against women campaigns including Amnesty, The Rape Crisis Network,
the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre and other concerned Non-Governmental
Organisations asked for it's remit to be published and for it's work to be
stopped. read full story / add a comment

Yesterday's police attack on the hippie enklave Christiania http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freetown_Christiania inmidst Copenhagen has to be seen in connection with the attack on Ungdomshuset http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ungdomshuset the 1st of march which lead to a week of riots all over Copenhagen http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2007/03/354943.shtml
Again the police is now attacking a free space in Copenhagen that has been under attack from both police and government several times the last couple of years. The police entered Christiania yesterday to evict and demolish a house, that partly burned down a couple of years ago. The eviction lead to riots and street fighting in the area. Shell to Sea Event at Norwegian Parade Next Thursday MAY 17th, 10.45AM, Trinity College Dublin

Every year the Norwegian Community in Ireland have a parade through the streets of Dublin to celebrate their national day. It's becoming traditional now for activists from the Shell to Sea campaign to join in, and point out how the government of Norway are doing a much better job of looking after the interests of their citizens than our representatives are looking after us.

Through ownership of Statoil, the Norwegian people will own 25% of Corrib gas. The people of Ireland will gain nothing. read full story / add a comment
