Over fifty trade unionists and community activists from South Auckland joined forces at an angry picket at the headquarters of Mercury Energy, 602 Great South Road in Green Lane, today Thurs 31 May at 4pm, to protest the death of Folole Muliaga.

Folole died after her power was disconnected from her house by a contractor employed by Mercury Energy, leaving her family to grieve in the dark. Her family had warned and pleaded with the company beforehand that her life support required electricity. She was $170 behind her bill.

Over the last 18 months I've posted a number of historical articles to indymedia.ie on the 1916 period and the rebellions of 1798. As these were very long and perhaps arkward to read online I've laid them out in pamphlet form and put the pamphlet up as a PDF file. Coiste na n-Iarchimi takes great pride in inviting you to this year’s Campa Náisiúnta Óige at Sheep Island View, Ballintoy, North Antrim.

This event is organised under our Processes of Nation Building Programme, which aims to create understanding and build relationships through dialogue and reflection with all those who have an interest in nation building across Ireland.

North Antrim was a hotbed of the 1798 Rebellion. Many Presbyterians took part in the rebellion against the English Government of the time. Some of these were women. Martina Anderson will use her opening address to elaborate on her role as Sinn Féin’s Director of Unionist Outreach and appeal to Presbyterians to engage in a process of building a new society.

Participants can also enjoy a programme of discussion and debate including George Galloway MP and Unionist and Republican speakers combined with social and cultural activities including live music and entertainment. read full story / add a comment

As the dust recedes from the ballot box and the parties alternately lick their wounds and rest on their laurels it’s worth having a think about its consequences for the left in general and the radical left in particular...Sinking a lot of work into achieving an especially high soapbox isn’t that much use when people aren’t listening, if we want our arguments to be heard we need to make them from the furnace where our politics have been forged, the heart of the struggles of the people. read full story / add a comment
