national / environment / news report Tuesday May 01, 2007 18:15 by Michael Canney
The Campaign to Save Tara is jubilant at today’s announcement that construction is to be stopped on the proposed route of the M3 through the Tara/Skreen Valley. Under the National Monuments Act the archaeologists contracted by the NRA were forced to declare a likely National Monument has been discovered. It had been the Save Tara Campaign that first alerted the National Museum to the potential significance of the Liamullen site, which is within 100mts of the Rath Lugh monument, and directly within the path of the proposed motorway. It is known that the Museum immediately contacted the NRA seeking information on the find. The Lismullen site had not been accurately identified during the initial archaeological survey of the route and the discovery of a henge almost 80mts in diameter and comprising of three concentric circles caused surprise to the archaeological contractor and near- apoplexy at the National Roads Authority. read full story / add a comment

A massive henge has been discovered in recent weeks near the Hill of Tara. This is a unique site in Ireland and should be preserved intact, as henges are very rare in Ireland. It is, without doubt, a national monument. A number of images are available on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hilloftara/message/2764 read full story / add a comment

The best speech in the house of eunuchs, otherwise known as the Dail was that given by Joe Higgins who alluded to the Poodles pissing against the lamp-posts in Dublin 6W upon which Minister Mc Dowell was hanging his posters. So we are into another election. therefore we can rest and enjoy the party. it is the only time when the TD's get down and dirty with the voters to justify a few more years lining the pockets and briefcases of their nearest and dearest. read full story / add a comment

Tallinn looks like a city in war: shops, buildings are burning. Everywhere people are beaten by police. Yesterday night thousands of people rioted because the governemnt brought to fall "the sovjet soldier" - a monument in the middle of the city that honoured the anti-fascist soldiers of the sovjet army who freed Talinn from the nazis in WW II. read full story / add a comment

United Press International distributed the story below. The link will presumably disappear when they realise what they've reported is a mish mash of real and imagined stories. It's interesting to see what they think is believable. When Bertie shows up in Washington every year, do they have a clear idea of who he is? Do they know where Ireland is? More importantly, is our news about the rest of the world so unreliable? (In other news, the President of Scotland announced that the French elections can be cancelled if the Socialist party don't agree to support the bin tax, say sources in Baghdad...) read full story / add a comment

international / anti-war / imperialism / news report Saturday April 28, 2007 23:24 by Edward Horgan
Saturday 28 April 2007 was a quiet day at Shannon. Relatively few civilian passengers going through (most civilian customers of Shannon have been attracted to Dublin airport over the past few years). The US military are once again increasing their use or abuse of Shannon airport, in a supposedly neutral state. Three US warplanes were present at Shannon, one North American US troop carrier, one US military executive jet, which could be carrying anyone from a US general guilty of war crimes in Iraq or Afghanistan or prisoners for torture to or from Guantanamo. Now is the time to make Ireland's complicity in crimes against humanity an election issue. read full story / add a comment |
