Mayo continues (see http://www.corribsos.com for details of the Shell to Sea campaign or http://www.indymedia.ie for news reports). The Rossport Solidarity Camp was established in the summer of 2005 and since then has provided an important focus for campaigners travelling to Mayo to support the local struggle. Here we speak to Sean Mallory, a WSM member who has spent a considerable amount of time at the camp, about his experiences. Please note that the views expressed are his own and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Camp. read full story / add a comment

As the days draw closer, the huntsman are beginning to shine their knives and hakapics and get their guns ready for a huge killing spree that will see hundreds of thousands of seal being bloodily killed and finally skinned to supply the fur trade yet again. Although the campaign to stop Canada killing seals is drawing closer to a victory we still need to remind those in the Canadian authorities here in Ireland that Ireland does not support the killing of seals and just like many other countries want Canada to Stop Killing Seals read full story / add a comment

Latest development for the troubled energy giant in what is rapidly becoming a year of bad news is that the Nigerian election may be fought on plans to nationalise the country's natural resources. It seems to be an emerging pattern that as energy becomes scarce, states don't like the idea of their oil and gas being sold or (in some cases) given away to transnational companies like Shell. It seems unlikely, but who knows what is going to happen, maybe the general election in Ireland will be fought on similar issues. On a day when the minister for justice is moaning about the cost of tribunals, and asking why the money spent there can't be used for parts of the economy which are underfunded like the Health Service, perhaps some smart candidate will start to question why the 51 Billion euro that the Corrib and associated fields are worth could not be used to fund something useful for the Irish economy. Maybe even a tribunal of inquiry into the giveaway itself. read full story / add a comment
