While the idea of comparing one gross act of terrorism to another gross act of terrorism seems as odious a comparison as any, there is nevertheless an appropriate comparison to be drawn where one gross act of terrorism is a direct precursor to the second. The RUC ran the UVF in Belfast and in other parts of the North. RUC Special Branch let their agents in the UVF kill at will. They blocked arrests and tipped off the UVF to raids for arms and explosives.

Former RUC detective, Johnston Browne, opens his account of his years in the RUC, Into the Dark with a description of a vicious beating - his own from RUC colleagues, in an RUC barracks. His 'crime' was to arrest an armed gang of UVF members.

An historic meeting between victims of radiofrequency radiation, activistists, representatives of the Irish Doctors Environmental association and senior officials was held on Tue 16th of Janurary at the headquarters of the World Health Organisation in Geneva.
The meeting was held in memory of the Late Dr. Denis O' Connor and his Late wife Ann of Kenmare, Co Kerry. Dr O 'Connor had written to the W.H.O. after they both contacted cancer while living under the shadow of a mobile phone mast. read full story / add a comment

x 5p an hour - the wages of workers in Bangladesh making their clothes
x 80 hours a week - their average work hours
x Sacked if they organise in trade unions to fight for their rights
x Bullied by management to remain silent when they are audited by inspectors
x LOCKED IN - Emergency exits are often locked by managment putting the health and of these workers at risk

Profits of these companies in 2005:
x Primark/Penneys: €227.5 million

Ógra Shinn Féin National Congress held an extraordinary meeting this weekend to discuss the Sinn Féin Ard Chomhairle initiative on policing.

The Congress passed a motion setting out a revolutionary new model of policing with radical changes in structure and practice and called on all Ógra members to vote against the Ard Chomhairle motion at the Extraordinary Ard Fheis next Sunday.

The Congress also urged republicans to remain united and said that they will respect whatever decision is taken by the party's Ard Fheis next weekend.

The meeting will take place at 3pm on Saturday 27th January in the Central Hotel, Exchequer St.

"Pro-Choice Campaigning" is intended to be a working meeting as opposed to one involving speakers and questions. There will be a series of workshops designed to produce realistic and practical ideas about how we can advance the pro choice campaign in Ireland today.
