After the Cyprus mauling the fans called for the sacking of Steve Staunton. The FAI got rid of Brian Kerr while Mick McCarty ran under the pressure of his failings. So is it time we forgot about blaming those the FAI appointed as international soccer managers and look towards the FAI as the continuing reasons for the decline in our international football team and the long departed good old days of glory. read full story / add a comment

The veil is a banner of political Islam used, to segregate women born by historical accident in the so-called "Islamic World" from other women in the rest of the world. The attempted construction of a high-pressure gas pipeline and onshore refinery in Rossport by the consortium of Shell, Statoil and Marathon has been resisted since 2001. Through the constant vigilance of the locals and activists in the solidarity camp, any attempts to access the site to work have been blockaded. If you've been living under a rock for the last while here's a rundown of the situation, the safety of the Rossport community will be at risk from contamination of their drinking water, environmental pollution, articulated vehicles on tiny bog roads and last, but not least, the potentially explosive pipe less than 80m from some of their houses! read full story / add a comment

On December 3rd presidential elections will take place in Venezuela. According to all opinion polls available, 60% of the electorate will be voting for the re-election of President Hugo Chavez. During the seven years of his government the project of the Bolivarian Revolution has resulted in unique reforms in the educational system and the public health service, in the redistribution of more than two million hectare of land for the benefit of 150 000 families, and in economic growth with social justice. Among the poor popular masses a broad Bolivarian, anti-oligarchic and anti-imperialist movement has been emerging. This dynamic process to overcome the structures of the former system is reflected in the programme of Hugo Chavez, which means the sovereign development of the country opposed to US- imperialism, a participative people’s democracy and a new concept of socialism of the 21st century. read full story / add a comment

Wandering down the corridors of the four courts today we were met with a edifying sight. Dozens of John Gill's supporters had turned up. He was kept busy shaking hands, greeting friends old and new and handing out copies of his affidavit to members of the press (Indy reporters included, indeed we were first to get a copy). read full story / add a comment
