"it is laughable to say that in some way Shell has press-ganged the media to its cause" - Daily Mail ShellToSea basher Paul Palmer Learning its lessons from the disaterous PR that resulted from the incarceration of the Rossport 5, Shell has steadily accrued a team of PR companies, gurus, community liasons and external advisors to help it launch a charm offensive with the re-start of work at the site in Bellnaboy. Financial Dynamics (a PR comany were the name says it all really), london PR guru and Tony O'Reilly employee Roy Godson, John Egan, Susan Shannon, Louise McMahon, Christy Loftus (58k a year for 3 years), Padraig Hughes and retired Garda John Carey have all been hired to win over support despite Shells claims that the "Corrib Gas Partners have the consent of the majority". Odd that Shell has to hire these people when they have the support of the majority, Shell could easily save themselves a few quid there. read full story / add a comment

ANTI-WAR IRELAND WELCOMES REMARKS BY BRITISH ARMY CHIEF OF STAFF Anti-War Ireland, a national anti-war organisation, welcomes the comments made today in the Daily Mail and on the BBC by British Army Chief of Staff, General Sir Richard Dannett, where he criticised the British military presence in Iraq and urged that Britian should "get ourselves out sometime soon because our presence exacerbates the security problems." General Dannett's remarks reflect the depth of anti-war sentiment in Britain and across Europe and stand as a remarkable indictment of Blair's war policy by the most senior general in the British army. read full story / add a comment

international / housing / news report Thursday October 12, 2006 18:57 by iosaf .:. ipsiphi
20 Ministers of Housing were supposed to hold a two day summit this forthcoming Monday & Tuesday. Ireland which has no such ministry might have gone along to observe. The location of the summit was to be Barcelona, which has only once before cancelled an international summit for "local security reasons" . The last cancellation was the World Bank meeting of 2001. The right to housing campaign which has developed in Barcelona over the last years saw 15,000 ordinary people demonstrate peacefully on September 30th & then a "riot" occur last week over a redevelopment case. Central & city government sources as well those from the Housing movement offer conflicting accounts & reasons for the cancellation. read full story / add a comment

mayo / miscellaneous / press release Thursday October 12, 2006 16:37 by Admin
Over the last two weeks the Shell to Sea campaign has been subjected to a coordinated assault designed to de-legitimise and criminalise local opposition to Shell’s project in Mayo. On the one hand, a large force of Gardai has been deployed to facilitate Shell’s resumption of work. Garda policing of local protests has become increasingly aggressive and is adding to tensions on the ground. Numerous incidents have been logged by monitors and will be pursued in due course. On the other hand, a concerted campaign has been waged by some sections of the media alleging that our campaign is centred on intimidation and effectively run by subversive elements. read full story / add a comment
