Mangroves in indus delta
international / environment / opinion/analysis Sunday October 01, 2006 19:57 by Qasim Rajpar   image 4 images
The Indus Delta faces major degradation threats that could well result in catastrophe. The major cause of destruction of the Delta is the reduction in the flow of fresh water from Indus River. As the delta dries up and the mangrove forests decline, the sea is slowly sweeping in. The Delta is now said to be only 10 percent of its original area. read full story / add a comment

Ógra Shinn Féin was joined by Gerry Adams on Saturday to launch the Dublin Health Rally.

Some Ógra activists held posters while others dressed up as patients on a hospital trolley, representing the massive waiting lists that currently passes as a Health Service in the 26 Counties.

National Organiser of Ógra, Barry McColgan said,

'I urge all Ógra activists to mobilise themselves and their community for the Public Health Rally in Dublin - ÓSF will form up in a contingent for the rally and 'Suicide Prevention' will be the theme. This is a opportune event in which to actively force our demands on Suicide Prevention and Health Care. '

Death Fugue (Paul Celan)

Black milk of daybreak we drink it at sundown
we drink it at noon in the morning we drink it at night
we drink and we drink it
we dig a grave in the breezes there one lies unconfined
A man lives in the house he plays with the serpents he writes
he writes when dusk falls to Germany your golden hair
Margarete
he writes it and steps out of doors and the stars are flashing he
whistles his pack out
he whistles his Jews out in earth has them dig for a grave
he commands us strike up for the dance

This evening, from 6 to 7.20 PM, 15 Shell to Sea activists picketed the Westside Shell Service Station and we were much heartened by the unstinting support and warmth of the passing motorists, joggers and pedestrians - except for one pathetic creature shouting; "Get a job" and "Hippies" (true).

Galway Shell to Sea were/are most appreciative of Sinn Fein and Socialist Party Young Turks who swelled and graced our ranks. read full story / add a comment

Today, in the High Court, before Justice Ms Mary Laffoy, Shell EP Ireland made its contemptible attempt to drop its legal action against the beleaguered Rossport landowners. Last year it was the big stick of State and Big Oil intimidation that sought to cow the legitimate concerns of the Erris community in the form of Cloverhill gaol, today, it was the rotting carrot, the Trojan Horse, that was the cynical ploy of read full story / add a comment
