dublin / environment / news report Friday September 08, 2006 15:05 by Madam K
As a child living in the city i am horrified at what the council have done to the lovely park on dame st. I loved that place ,it was a great place to meet friends or just chat with other people who would be sitting about on the benches. Now there are no benches to have a rest on.When i look across the road there are rows of pubs for adults to sit and have fun in .I dont wunt to go in a pub Why should adults have lots of thing and kids have nothing and why do we need more offices when they havent even got someboby to be in them. I made a protest with my friends to stop the building last year we even stayed out in the rain because we wunted our park back. The lovely statues are gone now too, my Ma says the people who made the building earn €250 million a year ,thats very greedy. I hope we dont lose anymore parks to greedy fat cats. See you in Dartmoth sq tomorrow ...KEEP THE PARKS FOR KIDS and see you tomorrow in Dartmouth sq read full story / add a comment

Today, in Galway, Shell to Sea activists took to the streets to distribute the four page info leaflet titled; Corrib Gas : A “Terminal” Project. it quickly became self evident the travails of prisoners of conscience ; The Rossport Five hadn't disappeared without trace into the memory hole of Mammon Ireland as a healthy plethora of pedestrians stopped to let us know they were still incensed at what was wantonly done to the Five last summer. Below is the full text of our leaflet : CORRIB GAS: A “TERMINAL” PROJECT read full story / add a comment

When the IRA split in December 1969 the dissidents set up a
Provisional Army Council until a proper IRA convention could
re-constitute the organisation. That convention took place in
September 1970 but by then the name 'Provisional' or 'Provo' had stuck
and was used as shorthand by both supporters and the media, despite
the distaste some veterans in the Movement had for that term. read full story / add a comment

Natascha Kampusch told viewers of Austrian television what it's like to be locked in a cellar for 10 years tonight. She's gone global. In fact she's top of the ratings. Natascha was all but forgotten about by Austrians a decade ago, but now reproduction and syndication rights of her interview have been traded worldwide. Each country & language giving it's own spin & peculiar title. I phoned my local television station which airs the interview tomorrow to complain at its choice of title which in English is "Natasha's confessions". read full story / add a comment
limerick / animal rights / news report Wednesday September 06, 2006 21:49 by Stephan Wymore
In order to force wild animals to perform stressful and often painful acts, trainers use metal bullhooks, whips, muzzles and electric prods. These horribly cruel training methods are commonly used in Irish circuses all over the country. This is part of ARAN’s ongoing campaign country wide to show the public that, animals in circuses have being taken from the wild at some stage in their life for a lifetime of boredom, misery, cheap tricks and cruelty. read full story / add a comment

Irish politician Gerry Adams, president of the Sinn Fein party, will on Wednesday speak to Palestinian politicians, some of them from Hamas, about the need for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and for a dialogue to achieve it. Adams is also urging Israel to open a dialogue with Hamas and wants the European Union to drop its endorsement of Israel's conditions for such a dialogue - conditions that include Hamas recognizing Israel, abandoning terrorism and accepting previous Israeli-Palestinian agreements. read full story / add a comment

Ógra Shinn Féin notes with disappointment the acceptance of the Towards 2016 partnership agreement by ICTU yesterday. We feel that this agreement, and indeed the very concept of the social partnership model, fails young people. It will only serve to weaken unions, leading to the ability of unscrupulous employers to exploit young workers. read full story / add a comment

galway / rights, freedoms and repression / news report Tuesday September 05, 2006 19:24 by Niall Harnett
'Our justice system may be equipped to administer the law but they are not equipped to deliver justice'. This quote, from a man who spent three months in jail last summer for protecting his community in N.W. Mayo, makes an important distinction in terms of what to expect from the justice system in this country. My own experience of Galway District Court yesterday leads me to disagree and say this. They are not even equipped to administer the law, let alone justice.
Assaults by Garda Sgt No:RG33 Mick Clesham on Owen Rice's legal assistants and friends in the court lobby, denials to Owen Rice of private legal consultation, threats of contempt against friends and Indymedia writers taking notes in court, objections to and intimidation of a privately employed stenographer and the denial of Owen Rice's right to cross-examine prosecution witness Detective Sergeant Mick Coppinger are all considered 'normal' procedure at Galway District Court according to Judge Mary Fahy and Galway Court Service Officer Ray Burke. read full story / add a comment
