There are occasions when the sheer wrongheaded analysis and distorted facts of a newspaper or magazine article cause you to stiffen with annoyance. Nine times out of ten, these articles are found in the mainstream press; the Independent Group of newspapers, for example, is a reliable purveyor of sly and explicit attacks on left-wing and progressive ideas, campaigns and parties, often underpinned by distorted ‘facts’ and baffling interpretations. It can be a frustrating experience to read these wilful misinterpretations of left-wing ideas and actions. Unfortunately, the socialist media cannot claim an entirely clean record in this regard either.

The sweltering sun of the June Bank holiday weekend shone down on over one hundred and fifty people attending a gathering at the Rossport Solidarity Camp. This marked the first anniversary of the Solidarity Gathering last June, at which Shell to Sea groups for different parts of the country were established and at which the camp was born. The camp has been a base for people to travel to the area to join in the residents’ pickets and other actions against Shell. read full story / add a comment

Here is a copy of a leaflet a Socialist Youth distributed to highlight the use of Belfast International Airport (Aldergrove) by US military 'rendition' flights.

Leaflets were handed to every one entering the airport, sometimes there was a small queue of traffic to get the leaflets. Most people were supportive of our protest. Hopefully, this will help to expose the state collusion in assisting torture flights. read full story / add a comment
