little human interest filler article for you all on "world parenting day"(*).-

Tokyo yesterday saw a national campaign to encourage the Japanese to have more babies launched.
Apparantly the Japanese aren't having enough babies anymore. What is really interesting is the way they decided to promote "having babies".

Born after the success of a Summer Craft Fair in Bealkelly Wood, the first weekend of traditional craft courses took place under a few hastily hoisted tarps between the trees in the wet Autumn of 2002.

It was booked out.

Since then, the event has gone from strength to strength and the workshop infrastructure along with it, so much so that the little 'Village in the Woods' looks like a scene out of an Asterix comic.

Weekends in the woods take place three times a year in Spring, Summer and Autumn at the invitation of host Del Harding in his woodland home on the shores of Lough Derg. read full story / add a comment

A “special all-day debate” on European issues is to be held in the Dáil Eireann, on 10th May. But it’s unlikely that CIA torture flights will be mentioned or indeed the fact that (unelected) EU foreign policy chief claims that he knows nothing or has no power to ask countries about the flights. Or the fact that EU governments, including Ireland's, are covering up the truth.

And meanwhile, the US claims that rendition is a well-established procedure that has no connection with torture. It all depends on your definition it seems. Oscar Arias has entered history as the first Nobel Laureate ( Peace prize 1987) to be president of a nation twice.

Chavez doesn't like him nor will he ask the Iranians to help him exploit his natural resources.
This is because Costa Rica has very little on the natural resources side.

This article is a reflection by one of the community gardeners on the reasons for the project. read full story / add a comment

Activity, Debate and Comradeship was on the agenda at April’s 6 County Ógra Shinn Féin meeting. The setting for the weekend of activities was the beautiful Mourne Valley of South Down.

Included in the weekend of activity was a ‘Smash Political Policing’ Protest at Kilkeel PSNI Barracks which saw protestors scale the wall of the Barracks and adorn it with ‘End Political Policing’ Posters, a launch of Speaking Rights in the Dail campaign, walk for Suicide Prevention and a 6 County meeting which involved debate around the current political climate and setting out a plan of activity for the coming months. The day, ended with a meal for everyone, getting together to reflect on the day’s activity.

On Thursday may 11th at 11.30 am four antimilitarist activists will be on
trial for a military train blockade in fall 2004. The public prosecutor
asks for a sentence of one year’s imprisonment, while the activist’s
lawyer pleads for acquittal. The trial has been postponed already two
times, the last one because of the absence of the witnesses (4 policemen)
for the prosecution without giving any reason. read full story / add a comment
