"But, hark! a voice like thunder spake, The West's awake! the West's awake!" This is a first hand account of what is probably the first anti-war demonstration on the campus of Glenville State College since the Vietnam era protests. Students are fed up with President Bush and his illegal war in Iraq that is costing the lives of West Virginia's youth which are being exploited by the military in promise for scholarships. We have arisen from our slumber and shall no long stand idly by as Bush and his cronies are destroying not only our country but the world of which all of us live!

Unless you're dead you've probably all heard about how shittty Irelands health service is. Our minister for health has her own 'Mary Harney Suite' (it's a corridor full of trolleys) in Tallaght hospital. A decade of unprecedented economic growth has proved that throwing money at a problem won't make it go away. So what’s the answer I hear you say? Well.....a doctors strike if we are to believe the evidence. read full story / add a comment

Its not just in Catholic schools that child abuse takes place, it also occurs in Muslim schools. Fortunately in Britain, some in the Muslim community have been prepared to stand up and demand that Islamic schools should have to face the same inspections and take the same precautions against child abuse as any other school.

This is also an issue in Ireland, already in one of the Islamic schools there has been a problem with the school spending too much time on Koranic studies. Islamic children also have a right to be protected against abuse. Anyone who is going into the schools should be vetted in the same as those who enter other schools. As Anne Cryer says below: "Failing to protect the children in madrasas because of 'cultural sensitivities' is nonsense - it is racist to differentiate between children and to fail to offer that protection "

As the lies about European restrictions on investment begin to unravel you don't have to be a socialist, to be concerned about the employees or even worried about transport links to feel that Aer Lingus should stay in state hands.

This is not a sentimental or political debate.

This is just a rip off. read full story / add a comment

21 years after the Bhopal Gas disaster, which has resulted in 20,000 deaths to date, survivors have still not received justice, or adequate compensation, and the factory site itself has yet to be cleaned up. Many Bhopalis are still drinking poisoned water, while the officials responsible for the plant, including Union Carbide CEO Warren Anderson, continue to abscond from facing legal proceedings for their callous negligence. Thus, a group of sixty Bhopalis have embarked on an 800 km walk for justice from Bhopal to New Delhi, where they will meet with the Prime Minister and voice their demands, following it up with a hunger strike if action is not taken. They have been on foot for more than a month now and are due to arrive into India's capital city and political Centre on 25th March. read full story / add a comment
