galway / rights, freedoms and repression / news report Friday December 09, 2005 17:41 by Tommy Donnellan
... for the rain came down and down, no mercy, a serious inhibitor as regards demonstrator numbers - 1,000 +, nevertheless, it did'nt dampen Michael D. Higgin's fiery denunciatory speech of Irish Ferries and their fellow-travellers in government at march's end at the Spanish Arch or Maura Harrington's (of Shell to Sea fame), collaring of Frank Fahey (of Shell to Sea notoriety) at the end of the demo : Maura asked him how the "consents" (for the pipeline) were going, "fine" says Fahey, "not up in Mayo, they're not", riposted the sharp tongued Maura, Fahey with his arse in Maura's bacon slicer and clearly discombobulated (unfortunately, the posted shot does'nt show it) trying to bollox his way out of the situation by soft-flanneling her with; "you have a strong campaign up there," "yeah", says Maura, "we fight to win, Fahey skedaddled after that - keep running, pilgrim!. read full story / add a comment

galway / rights, freedoms and repression / news report Wednesday December 07, 2005 20:10 by Tommy Donnellan & his eminence grise, Black Pope.
Galway City is in fervourous ferment at the moment brewing up a head of righteous steam for the Big One on Friday against the actions of Eamonn Rothwell & co; the city is awash with posters for the Day of Protest & Action mainly, let it be said, from the SWP calling for support and also for a General Strike, a call I vigorously support - what's the point of fucking about, no more foreplay, fuck Irish Ferries, IBEC and Ahern's government. What's the point of ICTU playing the role of the vestal virgin, in bed with our exploiter enemies and the workers getting it up the ass?. read full story / add a comment
national / worker & community struggles and protests / opinion/analysis Wednesday December 07, 2005 12:00 by DC
Friday’s demonstration is an opportunity for all Irish workers to show our support for and solidarity with Irish Ferries workers in their battle against job displacement and exploitation. Their fight is our fight because if the company is successful in defeating the workers’ resistance it will open the floodgates for employers throughout the economy to slash wages and attack working conditions – a process which is already well under way. read full story / add a comment

The Catholic Worker crew in OZ have set off to inspect a U.S. NSA/CIA base Pine Gap, near Alice Springs in the centre of the continent. They are covering the journey of thousands of miles in a van fueled by recycled Fish and Chip oil. Pine Gap plays a significant role in sattelite targetting for U.S. drive by cruise missile attacks and electronic spying. They are being joined by Donna Mulhearn, an Australian peace actvist who was held hostage in Fallujah and witnessed the U.S. destruction of that city. The crew called into the trial of those arrested in June for blockading Operation Talisman sabre a joint OZ/U.S. military exercise held this past June. read full story / add a comment

I was going out with a girl from near Dolphins barn when josie dwyer was killed . I used to pass him quite frequently , he was always on the grass outside the flats or hanging around the railings on the bridge . A pathetic sight he couldnt have weighed more than 7 or 8 stone . Before he was killed if you walked through Fatima chances are youd be approached maybe a couple of times and asked if you were looking gear . And it only takes a minute to walk through it . One guy even employed the Moore street selling technique of yelling " come get yer luvverly gear" while riding round on a mountain bike . The drugs thing was just out of control . The bird I went with attended many anti drug vigils and marches and even favoured shooting the bigger dealers dead . Last I heard of her years ago she was addicted to smoking the stuff herself - just gave up . Beautiful girl too , an awful waste . Im not surprised to be honest Josie Dwyer got thumped even though it was w read full story / add a comment |
