The usual Sunday Evening Liturgy in the Dublin Catholic Worker House was followed by soup and an Open House Gathering where all were welcome. This week was more poignant than normal because of the realisation that our friends may be going to jail. This could be the last time for a while that we can sit in community and literally, break bread together.
Tomorrow, the jury decides. read full story / add a comment

Tadhg Mc Grath has an honours degree in painting from Central Saint Martin’s College in London, and an MA from the National College of Art in Dublin. He has exhibited in Belfast, Dublin and London, and has work in private collections in the UK and Ireland. His work is thought provoking and often controversial, taking on themes including the troubles.

The exhibition will be opened by Micheál Ó Seighin. read full story / add a comment

I was one of the co ordinators of the Irish mobilisation to the Second European Social Forum which was held in Paris two years ago, to the day. We had over a hundred people come from Ireland, and it was my job to head over early and co-ordinate accomodation with the ESF organisers there, as well as get the lie of the land and find out where everything was happening... read full story / add a comment

The photo of Martin McGuinness fraternising with infamous war criminal Kissinger - which is on the home page of www.ncafp.org - sums up the hypocrisy of the Sinn Féin leadership. Urgent: two journalists detained in the repression by the police in Mar del Plata
The Alternative Media Network of Buenos Aires, Argentina
November 4th, 2005

Journalists Fernando Catz and Roger Sampedro, both with Indymedia, are among the 87 persons detained by the Federal Police during the repression unleashed this afternoon against Anti-Bush demonstrators.

We ask our fellow journalists to urgently disseminate this news by way of agencies, newspapers and websites in order to facilitate getting information on their location and to call for their release.

It is vital for all of those detained that the press take notice of them because in these past few years there have been scores of cases of misconduct, abuse and torture at the hands of the police in Argentina. read full story / add a comment

The Spanish have a word for it, they call it "callejera", it means street violence which includes arson, houses, businesses and cars get burnt.
The Basque term is "kale borroka", its thought of as the lowest level of sustained urban unrest.

The French today, look at their newspapers and see photos which usually they see in Iraq of cars in flames. But this time its "their cars", as their prime minister De Villepin assured the national assembly from the floor.

They must be very re-assured.
Even though he was never elected.
One might have heard an artistocratic taunt hanging in the gilded air, "let them buy cars!".

Independent South MEP Kathy Synnott has asked Brendan Kelly and Andrew St. Ledger of the Woodland League to travel to Brussels to meet with the EU commission. It is the intention of Andrew and Brendan to bring as many cases as possible of communities negatively affected by coniferisation and plantation style tree crops. The only party that we would absolutely rule out are the Progressive Democrats

"We have ambitions that can only be achieved in power. I think Sinn Féin is able and has already demonstrated its capacity for responsible government,"

Sinn Féin would prefer if improvements could be made to public services, especially the health service, through reform and efficiencies rather than through extra spending, read full story / add a comment

We are happy to announce that a large number of people responded generously to our appeal. In fact, we received enough online donations within 12 hours of the appeal to cover our hosting costs and donations have continued to come in. The details of our fundraising to date are included below.

There are serious concerns over the 10 year timescale outlined in the announcement Transport 21 proposal relating to the Navan railway line.

In 1859, it took only 3 years to clear & build the 26 mile Navan line by hand, using picks and shovels. Work commenced in October 1859 and was completed in August 1862 - surely the line can be reopened much earlier than 2015 using modern track laying technology along the old allignment? read full story / add a comment
