There is another M3 Route available which does not pass through the Tara valley. It is up to 3.5km shorter, could pass Tara 5km away, and be €50m cheaper than the current route. It also offers the possibility of linking Trim to the M3. read full story / add a comment

Maybe there's a million homeless, the dead will be in hundreds, the next storm is brewing in the carribean, the oil wells are closed, the crops of the mississippi valley are destroyed. 250 sub saharan africans attempted to cross the border into the European Union at melilla yesterday in a day of frenetic activity for the Guardia Civil in which migrant died, though Spanish Government sources are discounting any connection. Spanish national police for their part have called publically on the Moroccan authorities to stem the "avalanche". The public disquiet raised by the presence of arms in society might lay behind the media interest in Catalonia in an incident this last week which saw young recently recruited police officers fire 4 shots at 1.75m described as "warning shots fired in the air" in response to an incident involving persistent graffiti taggers. 'The National Aquatic Centre is being poorly maintained leading to an air of decay in the new facility, it has been claimed. Members complain of dirty changing areas, broken toilets as well as the build up of grime on mirrors, walls and underneath benches.'

There have been 3 arrests in the lead up to the EU Gymnich summit, under the Terrorism Act the men from Newport, were arrested under anti-terrorism powers on Chepstow Road in the city on Thursday afternoon and held overnight. Gwent Police said on Friday that after extensive inquiries, it was established that no offences had been committed. Security has been heightened in Newport ahead of a meeting of European Union foreign ministers there next month. In a statement, the force added that the men were arrested after police received information of suspicious activity in Chepstow Road & "responded swiftly to the information in light of the current terrorist threat". Pickets took place across dublin (and nationally) at statoil stations demanding statoil withdraw from the corrib gas field consortium. around 25 people took part in the one at usher quay in Dublin city centre. There was great support from the motorists and for most of the time the garage was completely empty. some motorists were determined to break the picket and demanded the gards moved us out of the way. read full story / add a comment
