The proposed gas pipeline in Erris, County Mayo, has at various times been referred to as either a transmission, distribution, domestic, offshore, sales or upstream pipeline, and even “offshore landline”. One thing is certain; no-one outside of the Shell/Statoil/Marathon partnership can take responsibility for the safety of the public. This is the number one concern for the people of Rossport. read full story / add a comment

There have been 3 arrests in the lead up to the EU Gymnich summit, under the Terrorism Act the men from Newport, were arrested under anti-terrorism powers on Chepstow Road in the city on Thursday afternoon and held overnight.

Gwent Police said on Friday that after extensive inquiries, it was established that no offences had been committed. Security has been heightened in Newport ahead of a meeting of European Union foreign ministers there next month.
In a statement, the force added that the men were arrested after police received information of suspicious activity in Chepstow Road & "responded swiftly to the information in light of the current terrorist threat". Not before commerical media had spun an Al Qaeda attack threat story.

Today, for seven back-straining hours, Shell to Sea activists toughed it out with the inclement weather and pneumonia to bear witness to the Five, now in day 58 of their obscene incarceration, garnering rakes of petition signatures, dispensing leaflets and outrage to the good people who flocked to our info table to similiarly bear witness.

The day was capped with an hour's picket/blockade of the Statoil Servive Station at the nether end of Bothar Mhor which drew the mild attention of two Gardai and an avalanche of supportive car honks and power salutes.
