We had another successful evening at the Dolphin's Barn community garden.

For the first time, there was an equal gender balance - 4 fellas and 4 women. We did a little bit of watering. Then we cleared more area of grass and stones and began work on another row. We planted a section of the row with sunflower and pumpkin seeds, I think it was. It was a fine, dry day, and as I looked around the garden, I thought of that first night there, and how radically the place has changed since then. We've had a big impact on the space already, and things are going to get better and better.

Lara brought along some carrot cake that we made, and we shared it out, and then went on our way, until the next time... read full story / add a comment

From the newswire (our correspondents are everywhere)!:

April 27th 2005 (Indymedia.ie) Yesterday, Circuit Court Judge Carroll Moran was the guest speaker at a public talk hosted by the University of Limerick Law Society. Two local people with an interest in judicial standards heard about it and decided to attend. The judge gave a one hour talk on “A judge’s perspectives on Circuit Court Practices” in which he outlined his insightful views on the jury system. He was not comfortable with some of the questions at the end which related his own conduct while presiding over the trial of Mary Kelly (see previous indymedia.ie coverage).

To mark the anniverary of Hans Christian Anderson, and the calls by Shroeder to support this immoral EU constitution-
unknown forces have caused more than a thousand toads, (which belong to the same genus as frogs) to leave the small pond of Altona in Hamburg, and spontanously explode.

This is fatal.

Audio of talk by Dr Brian P Murphy osb in the Imperial Hotel South Mall Cork on Fri April 15 2005. Nine audio files - approx two hours in total. This very successful meeting (over 200 present) also saw the launch of Dr Murphy's new book, 'The Catholic Bulletin and Republican Ireland'.

Some recent studies question the ideals of the Irish republican movement, branding it as sectarian; minimising the ideals of those involved; and categorising the IRA as murderers of policemen. These issues were addressed in the talk, which furthers the critique of the approach adopted by Peter Hart in 'The IRA and its Enemies', and in subsequent revisionist work. The debate on the approach by Peter Hart, and his response, has been covered on Indymedia Ireland previously here.

Willie Morrogh, who works for Dublin City Council, will be doing some community gardening in Dolphin’s Barn House – if anybody wants to go down and lend a hand, they are more than welcome. They are meeting at 1000 outside the Dolphin House homework club, which is at the third block over from the canal. They will be digging up a space next to a children’s playground.
