On the 11th of March, those Irish citizens of counties Meath and North Kildare were called to vote in a secret ballot, as is their right for living in a tippy toppy emergent democracy, regardless of Ethnic origin, Religious Creed, Social Economic class, or Gender. ( but only if they actually live there, and pay or don't pay tax there, as the tippy toppy emergent democracy of Eire doesn't afford its citizens postal votes.) Out they came in their handfuls. Leaping over the primroses and daffodils, pushing aside the lobbying publicans to exercise the rights so sorely won and desperately needed in far off places. read full story / add a comment

national / environment / news report Saturday March 12, 2005 11:30 by Israel Finnerty
Tramore, Co. Waterford home to a three mile beach, sand dunes, back strand lagoon, wildlife sanctuary and landfill. For years commercial and residential waste has been ‘legally’ dumped on the back of this beach. At high tide and times of flooding some of the waste ‘conveniently’ gets washed out to sea or washed onto the shore. There is also a great deal of leachate soaking into the water and surrounding soil and sand. This environmental catastrophe has gone largely unnoticed in the past and has been successfully concealed from public knowledge. The plan is to raise public awareness and highlight this as in issue in a number of different stages. For details on Stage 1 of the public awareness project go here http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=68947 read full story / add a comment

"In eunte Verae" (if I remember correctly from my schooldays) is a Latin tag which means "With the coming of Spring." The weather has been kind and growth is in the air. But what I hunger for is political growth. Will the Progressive Democrats national conference bring change or will it be, politically, another lost opportunity - another stale affair? read full story / add a comment

Anti-Nuclear Protesters from across the country are locked on to a 25 foot mock Trident nuclear Submarine outside the Scottish Parliament today. They are raising awareness of the UK’s obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to get rid of Trident. There are 17 people inside the submarine locked on including a member of the Scottish Parliament Rosie Kane MSP. They began their protest at 10.15 this morning. A number of MEPs have come outside the parliament building to show their support. Just in case you thought they had gone all soft and cuddly, heres an article from the current edition of the CPI publication 'Socialist Voice' justifying the Hitler-Stalin pact! Of course if you dare mention Stalin's crimes you are either a right-wing stooge or worse still an 'ultra-left'. Looking forward to their justification of the Moscow Showtrials.
