clare / anti-war / imperialism / news report Friday February 13, 2004 23:29 by Bard of Ennis (Barred from Ennis)   text 5 comments (last - sunday february 15, 2004 19:54)   image 1 image
There's a cranky old Judge called Joe Mangan
Who would love the return of the hangman
He's a cranky old bollix
and an old alcholic
He'll have to make do with a Clare-ban

Now some folk might think it unfair
To be banned from the County of Clare
But this rude little sod,
In his court, thinks he's God
So be careful, my friends what you wear

You'd better not voice an opinion
While sitting in Mangan's dominion
And speak not of Hussein
for it drives him insane
You'll be set upon by Garda minions

Just to prove he's an absolute spanner
he will confiscate anti-war banners
then he'll bellow and roar
and he'll show you the door
and complain about YOUR lack of manners!

Ireland on Sunday: Commentary on Front Page and Feature by Deirdre Tynan.

Discussions about the role of corporate media usually end up being esoteric discussions about the subtle misdirection and bias exposed by Chomsky and Hermann. Sometimes though the corporate media just lets it all hang out and tells such huge porkies that it's hard to believe. Perhaps the most "skilled" example of the art of complete and utter lies that has sullied our eyes is the work of "journalist" Deirdre Tynan and her editors and publishers at Ireland on Sunday.

"We are not seeking the overthrow or opposition to President Aristide the way the opposition is, that has bought us a great deal of invective," he explained. "On the other hand, we can hardly give marvellous grades to the government performance on a number of areas such as disarmament as we would have wanted." He did point out that President Aristide was not opposed to holding elections and has called for the opposition to use channels open to them to bring about peace in Haiti. He said that the opposition's current stance could take the country to civil war however, President Aristide could prevent this.
**************
So it began. But the above is not really true as you probably have guessed. Aristide _must go_, and our governments must pressure him to go. NOW.

'One of the central, but not well known, direct goals of the Irish EU Presidency is to reach agreement with the European Parliament about the CO2 Emissions Trading Market. This market is to be launched in 2005. Ministers of the EU Member States are demanding a market full of loopholes, so companies can escape reducing CO2 and other greenhouse gases on EU-ground. Instead companies will be able to produce and trade the commodity “the right to pollute” by financing cheap efficiency projects in Eastern Europe and in the South. read full story / add a comment
