A large crowd gathered outside City Hall in Galway on Tuesday the 9th , on what may be the last chance to do so legally if the city's reactionary and draconian council get their way. People and groups from all walks of Galway life were there, buskers, skateboarders, kite flyers, shopkeepers, sports enthuasiasts, unions, voluntary and political groups. All were united in protest and condemnation at the introduction of the borderline facist byelaws, which are set to strangle through over-regulation nearly all public activity of almost any sort, and destroy the vibe and spirit that Galway is famous for. read full story / add a comment

WPI Briefing: We have been hearing about the abysmal situation of women in Iraq. Can you give our readers a synopsis of the situation of women in Iraq? Nadia Mahmood: Since 9 April, the situation of women in Iraq has worsened on a daily basis. Women cannot safely walk in the streets. They cannot go to their jobs. During the last months, families have had to accompany their female students to and from secondary schools and universities until they finished their exams a few days ago. The killing of women has become a daily phenomenon. In a country where there is no justice system or policing, women raped by Iraqis or American soldiers are paying the price by being killed in the name of honour. Rape has become a norm. Women cannot even report rapes because they fear the consequences of possibly being killed by male members of their family for bringing 'shame to the family.' read full story / add a comment

Contributors and readers of indymedia.ie will all by now be familiar with the infantile interjections of Trolls, such as the one calling himself Seáinín. Posting knee-jerk, argumentative, hateful and offensive comments which at times verge on the racist misogynist and homophobic, the Troll posts his comments in the hope of getting a rise, say his critics. "But" says veteran user Sticktothedebate " the phenomenon will probably never disappear altogether, its the price of having a democratic media without censorship. The only posts and comments removed are factually incorrect ones and race-hate ones" read full story / add a comment

By now you are all aware of the problems in the Spanish state, and hopefully you will also be aware that in the lead up to the next elections the 25 year old "constitutional statute" is under review. Pushing hope to the limits perhaps you have read the numerous posts in the last year concerning the principle personalities invovled and not need to be spoon-fed. read full story / add a comment
