On 31 january, activists held a 12 hr vigil in Derry's Guildhall on the 31 anniversary of Bloody Sunday against Raytheon, the arms trade, and the commission of the Bloody Sundays of the 21st century. At the end of the vigil they posed for a photograph holding a placard which reads "FREE MARY KELLY", in honour of their Donegal sister charged with allegedly sabotaging an American weapon of mass destruction at Shannon. A spokeswoman for the group told indymedia "As the Bloody Sunday relatives can tell you, States committ horrific crimes against ordinary citizens in the pursuit of their interests. They then turn around and demand that you bury the hatchet and turn the page of history so that they can be let off the hook. That's bonkers. Mary Kelly has it the right way round. The only place to bury your hatchet is in the instruments that are going to read full story / add a comment

The "Guernica" work by Pablo Picasso at the entrance of the Security Council of the United Nations has been covered with a curtain. The reason for covering this work is that this is the place where diplomats make statements to the press and have this work as the background. The Picasso work features the horrors of war. On January 27 a large blue curtain was placed to cover the work. A diplomat stated that it would not be an appropriate background if the ambassador of the United States at the U.N. John Negroponte, or Powell, talk about war surrounded with women, children and animals shouting with horror and showing the suffering of the bombings. read full story / add a comment
