Women's Picket and Speak-Out at Renmore Army Barracks, Galway Wednesday 19th March @ 11.00 am sharp The Global Women's Strike calls on women and men to Strike Out Against War with a women's picket and non-party political grassroots speak-out at the Army Barracks in Renmore, Galway. All welcome. Bring relatives and friends! The Strike calls on all anti-war groups to organise similar pickets at local army barracks, Garda stations and other sites of support for this war - Shannon airport, government offices, the Dail, arms manufacturers and companies making 'dual purpose' materials. Already, women and men in Derry are giving a lead by picketing Raytheon, the giant arms manufacturer every week. On Monday, non-violent direct action began to sweep the United States, from Washington DC in the east to Los Angeles in the west, against the second war (Afghanistan was the first) aiming for a US military takeover of the world.... read full story / add a comment

The Trinity College Branch of the Free Legal Advice Centres (FLAC) has organized a conference for March 8th around the title, “Poverty, Social Exclusion and the Law”. Speakers at the conference will deal with issues ranging from the interrelation of poverty with crime and educational disadvantage to the plight of travellers and refugees and the ideological content and function of law in modern bourgeois democracy. This conference will be of particular interest to those within Irish society concerned with tackling the cancer of social exclusion, so every organization and party should make an effort to be in attendance. The full details are below. This story had been posted previously, but given the recent comments made by the Community and Social pillar in the partnership talks it has a renewed relevance. read full story / add a comment

The Global Women's Strike is organising a national event against war at Shannon airport on International Women's Day, starting at 2.30pm. As we prepare to take Strike action with women from many countries, we face the threat that the US and UK governments will unleash their weapons of mass destruction on women, children and men in Iraq, people just like ourselves, only poorer. The Strike is calling all women to down tools on Saturday, join the Strike caravan and travel from all over Ireland to the airport on that day. All women are invited to Shannon airport under the banner 'Women Say No War. Invest in Caring Not Killing'. Women in Ireland, proud of our anti-war tradition, are saying, 'Globalise Neutrality'. The event is organised by non-party political grassroots women who are part of a global network. Together we make women's hidden case against war... read full story / add a comment
