international / health / disability issues / news report Friday April 13, 2007 21:42 by Kevin t. Walsh
The other day I received through my door a booklet on Fine Gael's Lucinda Creighton. The name rang a bell for one main reason. A lady of 29 years facing eviction last October and three emails I sent to Lucinda Creighton. Eventually with my partner Michelle and the assistance of Ruari Quinn we got an extension for this woman of several months. I ask where is this woman's humanity towards the vulnerable people, she is supposed to represent in Dublin 4. read full story / add a comment
international / crime and justice / news report Friday March 30, 2007 20:44 by Kevin T. Walsh
My dream began the other night when Joe Duffy - the legend, was on his way out of RTE studios - he said to Derek - I don't envy you Derek, believe me. This f........ insect has caused me and my Lifeline staff nightmares since last March. As we speak the Stroker Fahy is preparing for prison on Tuesday. His 97 year old mother is taking up residence in Galway with a far out cousin of Berties. Does anybody out there remember the Stroker McSweeney? This guy came in from America two years ago under Government approval - as Chief Advisor of Science and Environment to the Government. He turned out to be a Walter Mitty - the phd was created by no less than Podge and Rodge. This man was let go - I ask - Why was he not charged with Corruption too? read full story / add a comment

international / rights, freedoms and repression / news report Friday March 16, 2007 21:06 by Kevin T. Walsh
Brian Cowen once said that Bertie Ahern was man disinterested in material wealth; a Man of the People - a pint of Bass - and a chat with the Dublin people in relation to how the Dublin people are doing in the Championship. The last Socialist, he called himself but now we all know, to the contrary of our lives and our civil liberties, that this is not the case. read full story / add a comment
national / crime and justice / opinion/analysis Sunday March 11, 2007 21:20 by Louise Gaffney
The innocence and wonder of children is something that sane and decent people strive to cherish and protect. The ubiquity of terms like "child abuse" in the media can lead us to almost become innured to the reality of these repellent crimes. Rational adults expect law agencies to have such crimes prioritised and investigations prosecuted with professional "zeal" for want of a better term. Alas what happens when a cloud of doubt is cast over those very agencies and professions whose remit is to protect the weak and the vulnerable ? read full story / add a comment

Pro Choice Activists marked International Women's Day by holding a protest outside a Rogue family planning agency on Dorset Street. national / politics / elections / news report Sunday March 04, 2007 00:26 by Ard fheis visitor
In a stirring and far ranging speech to the Sinn Féin Ard fheis at the RDS on Saturday evening, Gerry Adams called for a restoration of the Stormont Assembly, saying that the lesson of recent history in the North is clear: The British direct rule ministers need to be sent home. In the 26 counties he called for changes in the health, housing, education, drugs policies and also called for rural regeneration. Across the island, he said, there is still a growing inequality between the richest and the poorest, in health, education and in job and career opportunity. There is still, he reminded the audience, partition and foreign occupation. read full story / add a comment

But this got me thinking about a serious question, should political parties have anything to do with Students’ Unions? read full story / add a comment
international / rights, freedoms and repression / opinion/analysis Saturday January 27, 2007 18:48 by Kevin and Michelle
I was quite surprised at the reaction of the Report by Nuala O'Loan on Collusion and the murder of innocent people during the dreadful Troubles in the North of Ireland. My surprise is like that of the Haughey Repoirt and corruption, it proves that inspite of the fact that we all know, denial takes over. Some years ago, Nuala O'Loan gave a report on the 1998 Omagh bombing. Her reporr then was thorough and very well investigated. Afterwards, Ronnie Flanagan, the then Chief Constable of the RUC, when he said in public 'I will commit suicide if one single statement of this report is true'. At that time Nuala O'Loan criticised the handling by the RUC before and after the Omagh bombing. Nuala O'Loan had come across serious evidence that the RUC ignored vital information which may have prevented the attack. Do not forget that the Gardai Special Branch have serious matters to answer on this matter too. read full story / add a comment

This evening I was listening to Minister Michael mcdowell on Radio 1 at 5 O'Clock in relation to the murder of the young innocent man last night. This 'Dying Wasp' has an amazing lifespan. mcdowell spoke of a research committee on how to tackle organised crime. My vision for 2007 is we will revisit 'Who framed Roger Rabbit?'. You see Bertie the half Jack Russell and Kerry Blue (what a mix?) will get rid of the rabbit subtly with some deviance thrown in........According to today's paper's he is making overtures to Joe Costelloe. If the numbers add up in June there could be an FF/Labour coalition.......Now what about mcdowell. Let' us get real here. Can you see a Poodle from Ranelagh squaring up to a half Jack Russell and Kerry Blue seasoned Northsider......I don't think so...... read full story / add a comment

Bengemin Disraeli said that there were three kinds of statistics- Lies, Lies, and damn Lies. The Irish Government has been manipulating statistics of late. So now we are told there were only 6 complaints made by peace activists about suspicious US aircraft at Shannon? There were at least 60 such complaints, many in writing and many more verbal. Shannon Gardai now claim that it is necessary to come to Shannon Garda station to make a complaint, otherwise they refuse to acknowledge it. So if your neighbout is being murdered, or raped, and you ring up to inform the gardai at Shannon will they ignore your call. The people of Iraq and Afghanistan are our neighbours. read full story / add a comment
