international / anti-war / imperialism / opinion/analysis Monday November 22, 2021 17:00 by De Piorraí
I originally wrote this piece in September 2021 following the announcement by United States President Joe Biden that US forces would withdraw from Afghanistan, but never sought to publish the piece. The Irish Government is playing both sides on the matter of foreign affairs, calling for peace and claiming to be 'neutral' while actively supporting Western military imperialism. In this peice, I examine and criticise the involvement of Ireland in the Afghanistan War, with sources provided at the end. I can be contacted at depiorrai@protonmail.com read full story / add a comment

Craig Murray, a former ambassador to Uzbekistan, the father of a newborn child, a man in very poor health and one who has no prior convictions, will have to hand himself over to the Scottish police on Sunday morning. He becomes the first person ever to be imprisoned on the obscure and vaguely defined charge of “jigsaw identification”. Murray is also the first person to be jailed in Britain for contempt of court in half a century – a period when such different legal and moral values prevailed that the British establishment had only just ended the prosecution of “homosexuals” and the jailing of women for having abortions. read full story / add a comment

The key witness in a case the US govt has against Julian Assange and for which he could have faced a jail term of 175 years and the alleged reason why the British government have held him in a high security prison for the last two years, has come forward to admit it is all based on lies. The person is a fraudster but was briefly involved in raising money for Wikileaks and used the opportunity to embezzle money from them. The person in question is from Iceland. The whole saga reveals how the FBI used the Icelandic govt as part of their efforts to entrap Assange. This news means there is no case anywhere against Assange and he should be released immediately. The British govt who regularly bang on about human rights and the lack of free press in other countries has been denying Assange's freedom for years now and their own mainstream press have not made much effort to fight for his cause. read full story / add a comment

On Tuesday (March 9th) Senator Rónán Mullen read into the public record of the Seanad as part of the Order of Business revealations about the fraudulent antics of leading members of the so called Independent Scientific Advocacy Group (ISAG) who have spent inordinate amount of time on the national media promoting lockdowns. Report published recently of the international correspondence and workings of the so-called Independent Scientific Advisory Group which has been pushing for a zero Covid approach. Four weeks ago, the head of the group wrote to its members asking them to "look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty" and to "go after people and not institutions" because "people hurt faster than institutions". read full story / add a comment

The environmental charity Friends of the Irish Environment has called on Taoiseach Micheal Martin to clarify the Irish government's position in relation to efforts to allow the EU to subsidize nuclear power plants. According to a document seen by Friends of the Irish environment, several countries, including France, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, want the EU to allow subsidies to nuclear plants in return for backing a higher EU 2030 climate target. However, other countries including Luxembourg and Austria, are rejecting these plans. The position of the Irish government is not clear. read full story / add a comment

It has been revealed that the UK's chief scientific advisor who also chairs the government’s expert advisory panel on vaccines has according to reports (in the Telegraph) has over 43,000 shares in GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) – a multinational pharmaceutical company. The shares are estimated to be worth £600,000 This is the same person who is pushing for the vaccine and currently promoting fear around the current rise in "cases" trying to imply there is a second wave when these are just detections and not cases of where people previously had Covid and other related diseases read full story / add a comment

I know, you may think I am deluded. How could life in an Embassy with a cat and a skateboard ever amount to torture? That’s exactly what I thought, too, when Assange first appealed to my office for protection. Like most of the public, I had been subconsciously poisoned by the relentless smear campaign, which had been disseminated over the years. So it took a second knock on my door to get my reluctant attention. But once I looked into the facts of this case, what I found filled me with repulsion and disbelief. read full story / add a comment

Julian Assange who helped setup Wikileaks and in one of the first set of leaks revealed the murderous campaign of the US military against innocent civilians in Iraq amongst many other leaks showing the systematic criminality and inhumanity of the US government was betrayed this morning by the right wing corrupt president Lenin Moreno of Ecuador. Former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa – whose government granted Assange asylum in 2012 – branded his more pro-US successor Lenin Moreno the “greatest traitor in Ecuadorian history” for rescinding the asylum claim and allowing British officers to enter his country’s embassy. At the moment in a damage limitation exercise to try and shutdown support for Assange the corporate press is saying if charged, he could face up to 5 years in prison. This is to make it not so bad, but we can be 100% sure if deported to the USA, they will have a long list of dubious charges and most likely will give him a prison sentence that will more than easily cover the rest of his lifespan for that is the way of such regimes. read full story / add a comment

THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE TO OVERTURN THE EU COPYRIGHT REFORM In September 2018, MEPs voted for a version of the copyright Directive which will indirectly lead to implementing upload filters on most of the services you use online. The European Parliament’s (EP) Legal Affairs (JURI) Committee Rapporteur, MEP Axel Voss, then started the ‘trilogue negotiations’ – closed-door ‘informal’ negations with the representatives of the EU Member States (Council) and the European Commission (EC). These negotiations resulted in a trilogue agreement in Mid-February 2019. Despite massive criticism, the text has been made even worse than the EP’s proposal. read full story / add a comment

This is story is being reposted as it is considered to be of noteworthy interest to the issue of Brexit since it will probably have a significant impact on Ireland Remainers claim that Brexit will be an economic apocalypse. But it provides the opportunity for a radical break with neoliberalism. Nothing better reflects the muddled thinking of the mainstream European left than its stance on Brexit. Each week seems to produce a new chapter for the Brexit scare story: withdrawing from the EU will be an economic disaster for the UK; tens of thousands of jobs will be lost; human rights will be eviscerated; the principles of fair trials, free speech, and decent labour standards will all be compromised. In short, Brexit will transform Britain into a dystopia, a failed state ? or worse, an international pariah ? cut off from the civilized world. Against this backdrop it?s easy to see why Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is often criticized for his unwillingness to adopt a pro-Remain agenda. read full story / add a comment |
