Republican Sinn Fein would like to thank the Conway Mill, Belfast for the use of its facilities; the Orient Pub on the Springfield Road for hosting a very successful function on the Friday night and David Rovics for supplying great music and song. To those who helped in making the forum possible; to those who took part in the sessions and to those who travelled from various parts of Ireland and a special thanks to those who travelled from abroad. We would also like to say particular thanks to Roy Garland who offered a Unionist perspective to the forum. We are grateful to him for such insightful contributions over the two days.

A booklet will be printed within a short time with the submissions made to the forum which will make for fascinating reading. It will be available from the Head Office at 223, Parnell Street, Dublin 1. ///

national / anti-capitalism / press release Tuesday March 12, 2013 20:05 by Eugene Mc Cartan   text 1 comment (last - thursday march 14, 2013 12:39)
This month a group of socialist and republican activists from a variety of backgrounds throughout Ireland came together in Dublin to establish the Peadar O’Donnell Socialist Republican forum. The concept of the forum arose from a series of seminars that in turn had their origin in a symposium on “Republicanism in the Twenty-First Century” hosted by the Communist Party in September last year.

The aim of the forum is to promote the ideas of socialist republicanism, as best expressed by James connolly, Liam Mellows, and Peadar O’Donnell. The forum is named after Peadar O’Donnell in recognition of his outstanding role as a union organiser, republican soldier, author, enemy of fascism, friend of the worker and small farmer, committed socialist, and lifelong activist for peace and against imperialism.

The Tí Chulainn Cultural Activity centre, An Mullach Bán, in the picturesque ring of Gullion was the setting for Campa Náisiúnta Óige ‘08. The Centre is the jewel in the crown of South Armagh tourism and offers an insight into the rich cultural heritage of the region. The sloping hills of Slieve Gullion and meandering lakes between counties Armagh and Louth was an ideal setting for the 5th annual 3 day event.

From early Friday morning groups from throughout Ireland began arriving in South Armagh . By early evening a camp site was clearly evident to the rear of the Tí Chulainn centre.

Elements of the Irish labour movement are actively undermining its philosophy to keep establishment parties in power, a Labour Party stalwart has claimed. Declan Bree, a former TD and the current mayor of Sligo, made his comments while addressing a wreath-laying ceremony to mark the 60th anniversary of the death of the Leitrim socialist Jim Gralton on January 1.
His comments were widely seen as a thinly veiled attack on his party leader, Pat Rabbitte. read full story / add a comment

It's been an exciting week for Anti Capitalists internationally, with two huge mobilisations in Rome and Barcelona. We are now entering a new phase of activity, and GR are preparing for both Mayday here and Seville abroad. The movement is back with a vengeance post s11, and we will also be organising a delegation to the foundation of the European Social forum this November. Well done everyone on the Sellafield Nuclear Meltdown evacuation drill- there's excellent coverage available at http://www.indymedia.ie that we recommend everyone checks out! read full story / add a comment
