Shannonwatch are concerned at the ongoing use of Shannon airport by companies and planes associated with the illegal US rendition program. Since March 2009, five aircraft that have been identified by Amnesty International, the EU Parliament or other sources have been recorded there. One of these planes, a Gulfstream IV with registration N478GS made news in early October when it was met by British military helicopters on a runway at Birmingham International Airport. Six days later it was at Shannon, thus reawakening the possibility that the airport is still facilitating illegal kidnapping and torture. read full story / add a comment

IRELAND PALESTINE SOLIDARITY CAMPAIGN PRESS RELEASE, 20/12/09 Irish citizens travel to Middle East in Christmas bid to break Israeli blockade on Gaza Following several months of fundraising, four teams from across Ireland departed on Saturday, 5 December, to travel 4,000 miles across land to Gaza in Palestine to deliver ambulances and humanitarian aid to the besieged people of that tiny region. Concerned Irish citizens from Cork, Derry, Dublin, Galway and Tyrone are bringing two ambulances, a mini-bus, and a truck filled with over 10 tonnes of humanitarian aid. read full story / add a comment

On the 27th of December, 10 Irish people in 3 vehicles loaded with humanitarian aid will attempt to cross into Gaza. They will have spent 3 weeks on the road, and cover over 4,000 miles. The Irish Government is failing children with mental health difficulties. Urgent reform of the mental health system for children and young people under 18 years is desperately needed. In response, the Children’s Rights Alliance and Amnesty International Ireland have brought together 38 NGOs to form the Children’s Mental Health Coalition. The newly formed Coalition is today launching a manifesto and website www.childrensmentalhealth.ie to demand action from the Government. read full story / add a comment

The Minister for the Environment Mr. John Gormley was today urged to immediately suspend the licence he granted earlier in the autumn to the Ward Union Stag Hunt following a serious incident last Friday when a deer being hunted by the Ward Union was chased onto the main road between Ashbourne and Slane. The deer, which was hit by an on-coming Mercedes, was seriously injured and had to be put down at the scene. It had been seen exiting Seamus Dardis’s farm having begun its chase from Huntsman Pat Coyles premises. read full story / add a comment |
