New report analyses developments across Europe and finds: European governments are leading a race to the bottom which will see average global corporate tax rates hit zero by 2052. A detailed analysis of 17 EU member states and Norway reveals 12 governments have either just cut their corporate tax rate, or are planning to do so in the near future. Ireland receives a 'red card' in the report, as one of only two countries to receive all red in a traffic light ranking scoring a number of measures identified by civil society as key steps to bring an end to tax dodging. Half the countries analysed, including Ireland, are found to have harmful tax practices, which can be used by multinational corporations to avoid taxation. read full story / add a comment

It was announced yesterday that shell is planning to sell its 45% stake of the Corrib Gas project to Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). shell to Sea today claimed that shell caused considerable damage to all State institutions involved in the Corrib Gas project since their involvement began in 2002. read full story / add a comment

The Corrib Partners are benefiting from a relatively high gas-priced product and recorded estimated sales of over €420m in the first full year of production at the Corrib gas field. Production started on the field at the end of 2015. Earlier today three people targetted by members of the UK National Public Order Intelligence Units (NPOIU) in Ireland held a press conference. They want to build pressure on the Irish government to open up about the role of British spies in Ireland. The three, Kate Wilson, Kim Bryan and Jason Kirkpatrick travelled from Spain,Wales and Germany. Kate is one of a number of women who brought cases against the Metropolitan police in London because of being decieved into long term relationships with men who turned out to be undercover officers. read full story / add a comment

On Monday 5th Sept at Dublin District Court, shell were fined EUR1,000 after pleading guilty to causing light and noise pollution from gas flaring at Bellanaboy refinery last New Years Eve. The prosecution was brought by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) following complaints from people living around the Bellanaboy refinery.[1] read full story / add a comment

shell to Sea campaigner Maura Harrington was arrested in Belmullet on Friday afternoon and jailed for 10 days in Mountjoy prison for the non-payment of a court fine of E300. Last week 1100 people signed a petition calling on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reject shell's application for an Industrial Emissions Licence for the shell/Corrib Gas refinery at Bellanaboy, Co Mayo. They have also called for an oral hearing to be held into the application. The petition was started by the shell to Sea campaign and was hosted by the "Avaaz" community petitions website.
