PIGS EXPLOITED FOR ENTERTANMENT WITH NAAS County Council SUPPORT. While Belfast, Cork and Fingal are to be admired for moving with the times by banning the use of animals in roadside shows, Naas on the other hand is showing its retrospect attitude by staging a Pot –bellied pig race in April. It is to coincide with Punchestown Horse Racing to keep the punters in Naas after the horse racing has ended. Its mostly being promoted by the Drinking establishments and restaurants in the town. Pigs are highly intelligent animals and do not deserve to be degraded, frightened or used as part of what is an event that is basically centered around club and pub participation, basically its a beer festival. Defenceless animals should not be part of this type of atmosphere. This also sends out a message to children that animals are mere toys to be used by humans. read full story / add a comment

Fur Free campaigners in Donegal Town will demand an end to Irish fur farms this Saturday. With a Hugh visual display of caged animals, Large Banners, Posters, and Leaflets, activists will highlight the horrible suffering found on fur farms. The fur industry is one of the cruelest industries in the world. Unfortunately, Minister Mary Coughlan has allowed County Donegal to become known as the fur farm capital of Ireland. Donegal has this reputation for three reasons; 1) County Donegal has more fur farms than any other county in Ireland; 2) The Irish Fur Breeders Association is in County Donegal; 3) The constituency of the Agriculture minister, Mary Coughlan is in Donegal. It is Minister Coughlan who gives the licences to the fur farmers each year. The Minister of Agriculture has the most say on whether or not fur farming will continue in Ireland read full story / add a comment

On this the 92nd anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising, Ógra Shinn Féin proudly remembers all of those who died for the freedom of Ireland. We would like to extend our fraternal greetings to all our imprisoned comrades, to their families and also to all the families of our patriot dead. As we gather throughout Ireland this weekend paying homage to the sacrifice made by Ireland ’s patriot dead, we are ever mindful of the tasks that lie ahead. 92 years ago the Easter Rising shook irreparably Britain’s colonial hold on Ireland. It rekindled the flame of freedom in Ireland, and today, that flame continues to burn strong. read full story / add a comment

kerry / health / disability issues / press release Saturday December 22, 2007 22:02 by sean moraghan
Cancer Services in Kerry General Hospital are to be removed and relocated to Cork. There will supposedly be a better system of care there under one of several national ‘centres of excellence’. But that means that patients from Kerry could have a two-hour trip each way (or longer) to access treatment. That is in direct contradiction to the HSE’s statements that care of patients should be given as close to their homes as possible, and that there should be a greater emphasis on delivery of care in the local community. Long trips on top of treatments and trauma can hardly constitute excellent care. read full story / add a comment
