The end of Michael McDowell’s five-year reign in the Department of Justice is great news for everyone who wants an Ireland free from racism. His period as justice minister was marked by a cruel determination to attack the rights of people from other countries. He presided over a rotten system that routinely refused 92 per cent of people looking for asylum. His deportation mania led him to break up families and send snatch squads into schools. Saturday 3rd March will see anarchists from Ireland, Britain and Poland meeting up for planning and socialisng at the 2nd Dublin anarchist bookfair in the Teachers club, 36 Parnell square. Taking part in the discussiosn will be dissident republicans, Shell to Sea campaigners and anti-war activists. This Friday, 17 June 2005, in Dail Eireann there is a special session scheduled for 'Statements on the Morris Tribunal' from 10:30am - 13:30pm. To further expose this scandal and the politico/legal Cover-Up now in full swing, the extended McBrearty family from Donegal (the targets of the vicious frame-up on Murder charges by Gardai) will be attending this hearing and they'll have a few words for people both inside and outside Leinster House. So come along to learn what the media refuses to touch about this unfolding scandal, and lend your voice and presence on this historic occasion! We assemble at 10am at the Kildare Street entrance to Dail Eireann. Also please spread the word out to anybody who can contribute and blitz the Media to cover this. If we vote 'Yes' on June 11th, children who were born in Ireland, and have never set foot outside of Ireland, will have no rights as Irish citizens. The Irish Penal Reform Trust has questioned why Justice Minister McDowell is privatising the prisoner escort service when a report produced by his own Department found that “privatisation of prisoner escorts is not a viable option”. The IPRT further asked on what basis the Minister has made this decision when he himself admits, “no detailed research was undertaken into the experience of privatised prisoner transport in other jurisdictions.” read full story / add a comment
