After many delays of the Raphoe report, which is being investigated by The National Board for Safeguarding Children in the catholic Church (NBSCCC), we are requesting that the abuse survivors do not have to wait any longer for their findings. This afternoon, RNU held a march from the New Lodge/Antrim Road Junction to Clifton Street Cemetary in North Belfast. Where a commmemoration was held for United Irishmen; Henry-Joy McCracken & William Drennan both of who are interred in the Graveyard. A couple of hundred participants attended and listened to local Historian and Author; Joe Graham and RNU Chairperson; Carl Reilly. A number of wreaths were also laid from Political Prisoners in Maghaberry & Portlaoise and from RNU. read full story / add a comment

Three English catholic Workers were today convicted at Newbury Magistrates Court of Criminal Trespass under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act (SOCPA), and Criminal Damage. The convictions follows a protest at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in September 2010 organised by the catholic Worker. read full story / add a comment

Until recently, Irish religion has been seen as defined by catholic power in the South and sectarianism in the North. In recent years, however, both have been shaken by widespread changes in religious practice and belief, the rise of new religious movements, the revival of magical-devotionalism, the arrival of migrant religion and the spread of New Age and alternative spirituality. As recently as 2007 Ireland was being described as “one of the two remaining ‘blind spots’ for the study of religions in Europe”, (Ireland's New Religious Movements 2011 - see the link below) Now the details of a new MA course on Contemporary Religions have been announced by the Department for the Study of Religion in University College Cork. read full story / add a comment

The decision today by Judge Ó Donnabháin in Cork Circuit Criminal Court to reverse a 6-month custodial sentence imposed only yesterday on Garda Dean Foley for an unprovoked and vicious attack on a man two years ago has been has been deemed as a "highly dangerous precedent" by Malachy Steenson, Workers' Party representative in Dublin Central, who is also a Practicing Solicitor and Criminologist. read full story / add a comment

Benning, in the annual vigil and rally to close the School of the Americas/WHINSEC. Over the years since 9/11, under the pretext of "terrorism", it has become increasingly more difficult for activists to engage in non-violent civil disobedience, which has been a cornerstone of our movement.
