The finding of the BBC's “State of Minds – The Children” programme that sectarianism is rife amongst children is unsurprising within the context of continuing English rule in Ireland. The English government has always sought to divide and conquer, and this has been no different in Ireland. Furthermore the 1998 Stormont Agreement served to institutionalise sectarianism. read full story / add a comment

Galway Blazers Foxhunters have returned to hunt on the Bishop of Clonfert’s farm in Loughrea, Co Galway, they spent two hours there on Saturday last.. Members of the Galway Blazers hunt were spotted on the church land again by an observer who rang the hunt saboteurs. Apparently badger setts were also disturbed according to the observer. We are investigating this and are urging our members ring or write to the bishop. We have photos of the hunters on the land. We do not know whether the hunt had permission from the bishop to be on the land .We appeal to the Bishops compassionate nature(if he has one) to take steps to protect wildlife on the catholic Church lands. We will also be contacting the Wildlife Officers regarding the protection of Badgers. 'Press Officer Bernie Wright ' we are disgusted at the apathy and lack of compassion towards sentient creatures displayed by the catholic Church, its obvious the blazers were not denied access after a similar incident a few years back.' read full story / add a comment

dublin / anti-war / imperialism / press release Wednesday December 06, 2006 22:11 by Dave Donnellan
We cry out for a church that speaks without fear of consequences, including loss of revenues. We understand that we live in a time of great fear and peril. We need to remind ourselves that we are not to fear those that can kill the body, but instead to fear those that can kill the soul. Our domestic and foreign policies have left us a nation without a soul. We call on our Church to be a prophetic voice, a sanctuary, and a source of encouragement to those who want to work together in community towards peace and justice. read full story / add a comment

The Socialist Party condemns those who orchestrated Saturday's violence. It was a sectarian riot to prevent the Love Ulster group marching through Dublin. My party believes that the Love Ulster campaign is based on sectarianism and that its activities heighten sectarian divisions and encourage disunity among working class people, especially in Northern Ireland. We strongly oppose the political agenda and the activities of Love Ulster, but we recognise its right to march and protest in the centre of Dublin. The Socialist Party equally recognises the rights of others to indicate peaceful opposition to Love Ulster through disciplined protest, but they have no right to stop others marching as happened on Saturday in Dublin. My party strongly opposes the political agenda of both orange and green sectarians, whether in the North or on the streets of Dublin. read full story / add a comment
