Through our endorsement of Revolutionary Republicanism, we stated without apology that the defence of Irish Sovereignty, the achievement of true Independence and the struggle for Socialism were mutually inclusive tasks and that negation of one signalled a dangerous rejection of the other. We stated clearly that the mobilisation of the masses is a task which cannot be bypassed and that key to that task is the presence of Republicanism within and alongside day to day struggles of workers, campaigning groups and communities. read full story / add a comment

Blacklisting of workers is a `National scandal' and the scandal is that it has gone on for so long and not enough was done by those shouting the loudest now. Millions of people would be forgiven for thinking that the illegal blacklisting of over 3,000 construction workers has suddenly been discovered. Yet it has been the worst kept secret for over two decades that those who spoke up with concerns for Health and Safety on construction sites or defended wages and conditions were punished and denied employment. Brave people paid a heavy price as each year, each month, each day brought more discrimination - more lives were being wrecked, houses lost to repossession, stress induced ill health, heart attacks and even worse. read full story / add a comment

On June 12th a group of over 10 local white residents stormed onto the property of the Oliver family home, shouting racial epithets and demanding that the family hand over Eric Oliver’s 16-year-old friend Mikey Vasquez. The family refused and came under assault by the white mob, Eric came to his family’s defense and drove the mob away. The defeated mob members called the police to continue the attack on Eric Oliver. While Oliver was initially held on $100,000 bond, no arrests were made of the more than 10 white people who intruded onto the Oliver family’s property and assaulted its inhabitants. Police refused to take statements from neighbors who witnessed the attack. This Saturday July 7th, community members and activists will march in Bronson, Florida to demand justice for Eric Oliver. read full story / add a comment

“If Bloody Sunday had been limited to a few troopers and their commander, why was the truth so long stonewalled and the cover-up so doggedly continued? Why did the families of the victims have to wait so long for the truth? Meanwhile the families of many other victims of unjustified shoot-to-kill, plastic bullet, or collusion murders, continue to wait for justice.” read full story / add a comment

Last month in it's 22ND report, the Independent Monitoring Commission (IMC) alleged that Concerned Families Against Drugs (CFAD) were, 'a vigilante group who was responsible for a number of punishment shootings and pipe-bombings of suspected Drug Dealers' in the North Belfast area. Although, we were surprised and dismayed at these unfounded allegations, given that the IMC had not contacted CFAD before issuing its report. CFAD complained to the IMC through our legal representative and were subsequently invited to meet with the IMC today (8/12/09). read full story / add a comment
