The first Re:Public2011 event in the Button Factory on the 15th of February was such a great success., we have been encouraged to hold another big Dublin debate as soon as possible. It was a full house and had really great energy. The audience were amazing. We trended on Twitter because people were tweeting so much. The candidates all seemed to enjoy the opportunity to engage. We hope that after they are elected and sitting in the Dail, they will still enjoy that opportunity, because the next Dublin debate will be with elected TDs read full story / add a comment

Dylan Haskins is running as an Independent in Dublin South East. He's young, idealistic and already done many interesting things in his 23 years, from being a DIY punk setting up an all ages punk music gig venue to film making to helping set up Exchange in Dublin. Now he's running for election in tomorrows Irish elections. Young and naive, perhaps. But a positive breath of fresh air, absolutely. Ireland is fucked at present, maybe Dylan and his bold (anarcho)punk inspired ideas might be exactly whats needed to get things on track? read full story / add a comment

Beyond the political and financial classes, Irish people’s response to the crisis has surprised many on the Left, especially in the UK. Looking to riots in Greece last year, and more tangentially, the revolts spreading like wildfire across the Middle East, why, they ask, has Ireland not been more restive? Why, with joblessness running at over 13% and 1,000 people emigrating every week, did it take two years, and the intervention of the IMF, for mass street protests to take place? Given it is just days away from the election and a new government, most likely to be led by Fine Gael, many are probably wondering what exactly is the current state of Ireland and what are the prospects for recovery. In short, things are bad and a recovery is very unlikely. With the election coming up many people are planning to firmly boot Fianna Failure out and there is strong indications that people are not happy with any of the main parties. Therefore we should see the smaller parties and the independents having a real chance. Dan Boyle, formerly Bertie Ahern's choice for senator, is running for election in Cork South Central once again. This means he has to present a justification of his and his party's record as part of this government we've suffered for getting on four years. One of the ways he has been doing this is through his election literature, some of which I received in the post only this morning. Dear politician, Economically speaking we are being sold out by our elected representatives via the nationalisation of bank debt, while anything of value – such as our oil and gas resources - are given away via privatization. Socially we are losing a generation to emigration, most of whom will never return, nor will have any economic reason to do so without a reversal of how this nation is managed. Now in a state of desperation for employment, any environmental sacrifices dictated by private infrastructural projects will be justified by the offer of temporary construction jobs – crumbs off the plate while the corporations feast on our rich natural resources. read full story / add a comment

The Peoples movement calls for its supperters to vote for and to help 4 independent councillors to be elected in Dublin, Sligo, Donygal and Galway. This is vital in order to ensure that a number of politicans are elected with principled policies on the EU and leaving the Euro currency and on taking the Icelandic approach to solving our banking debt. read full story / add a comment

Fís Nua (http://fisnua.com/) lanched its election candidates on 5 Feb 2011 in Buswells Hotel, Dublin. Fís Nua is Ireland's newest political party and was entered on the official Register of Political Parties on 4th Feb 2011. F?s Nua stands for an end to the bank bailout, for social justice, sustainability, a steady state economy, greater democracy with devolution of power and an end to corruption. Cordelia N'c Fhearraigh welcomed everyone to the launch and introduced Cllr. Pat Kavanagh who made an opening statement. Each of the candidates then made introductory comments about their reasons for standing for Dail Eireann. Those candidates are (left to right): Ian Clotworthy - Dublin South East, Gerry Kinsella - Wexford, Pat Kavanagh - Wexford, Liam Johnston - Dublin Central, Dr. Ben Nutty - Waterford, Donal O'Riordan - Cork South West. read full story / add a comment

Gerry Adams made a big contribution to politics with his statement on the EU and IMF and has shown the way out of the mess that the political establishment and their EU and IMF overlords have saddled the Irish People with for the next 20 to 50 years. As well as defaulting we need to free ourselves from the IMF shackles and to leave the EU as soon as we can. read full story / add a comment
