international / miscellaneous / press release Wednesday January 18, 2012 14:04 byEileen Bennett   image 1 image
You don't need to be a financial wizard to recognise that the global economy is struggling. For many businesses, this presents serious challenges to their very survival and sustainability.
However, a Galway-based businessman Geoffrey Canacan has created a unique formula for dealing those challenges that, he claims, can dramatically change results by supporting the individuals within an organisation as they learn to think and act in a more positive and affirming way. read full story / add a comment

It would appear that new rules and regulations introduced by government are designed for the purpose of securing revenue for the state rather that resolve problems of law and order. Take for example RSA who-ha, who-ha that gets great press, lots of photo shots and then nothing. Within a short period of time all is forgotton and what was supposed to make a difference (regulations regarding learner drivers, taxi drivers ect, ect) is swept aside and left on the shelf to gather dust. And this applies right across all sections of Irish society where the band plays, colour lights flash in all their splendour, as suited gentlemen take the bows and then move on to more public eye catching events leaving everything as it was in the first place. read full story / add a comment

IRMS security hired by shell, occupying the State owned site yet again, demonstrated their lack of concern for health and safety. Outside police pushed protesters off the road, while one halted lorry driver expressed his intentions to police that he would clear the road by driving into protestors. Later spirits were high as police did not even attempt to clear the road when over 15 protesters lay down to block a lorry, which had to be diverted. Later the police returned and used brute force to push people off the road. They hospitalized one protestor.

I'm shocked but not surprised to see yet another stealth tax by the Government this time on 115000 Pensioners who have their own as well as the State Pension. Many of them are now going to be up to €4400 per year for a single person or €8800 per year for a couple worse off because they'll now be paying tax on their Pensions which they worked hard for all their lives. Why don't the Revenue Commissioners go after all the big tax evaders instead of vulnerable and soft targets like the Pensioners? Not that the Pensioners will be a pushover as they showed a few years ago when they resisted the Government's attack on their Medical Cards. read full story / add a comment

Is is justifiable to be a member of the catholic church with its history of child abuse cover up, anti women ideology, pro capitalist policies? All those who supported McQuaid and opposed the mother and child scheme have to condemned. They slunk away before the catholic church with their tails between their legs. They "proved" that Paisley and his ilk were correct that the South was a catholic state. they have blood on their hands. read full story / add a comment

Last week, an Taisce pulled out of a judicial review challenging the granting of consents in Sruwaddacon Bay as part of the Bellinaboy gas refinery project. Already the subject of a ten year campaign, this was not going to be taken lightly.
