Monday 22nd August at 6am, two people locked their arms into concrete barrels in the road between Shell's Ballinaboy refinery and the tunneling compound in Aughoose. The lock-on lasted for 7 hours, stopping all deliveries to the compound during that time.

IRMS and Gardai working together

Monday 15th August at 9am a group of 12 people went down to Shell's compound in Aughoose to stop work. Eventually Shell's private security (IRMS) and the Gardaí began working together to police the roads and protect deliveries of equipment to the compound. read full story / add a comment

Between a mass trespass in the morning, someone blocking the road for 2 and ½ hours by climbing on top of a lorry, and a protest outside Shell's Ballinaboy refinery, Thursday 11th August was a day full of blocking Shell. read full story / add a comment

Work was halted at Bord na Mona's Shrahmore peat deposition siteon Monday August 8th by protesters from Rossport Solidarity Camp. From 11am up until 6pm four protesters prevented Barrett's and Lennon's quarry trucks from entering the site with road building gravel. Inside the compound, two of the protesters climbed up onto a digger in order to stop it proceeding with the road construction on the site.

Bluegrass blockade

Between a concrete lock-on blocking the road for almost 4 hours and a bluegrass country band playing tunes in front of a Shell truck, Wednesday 3rd August was another impressive day of stopping Shell's work on the onshore pipeline of the Corrib Gas Project. read full story / add a comment

On Tuesday 2nd August Shell's work was halted for most of the day, only two tractors getting into the Aughoose compound by 3.30pm. There was a heavily increased garda presence with up to 40 guards being drafted in from Roscommon and elsewhere, and four arrests were made. read full story / add a comment

This week saw Shell begin the next stage of their gas project by attempting to extend and secure their compound in Aughoose in preparation to lay the onshore section of the pipeline. This entailed tractors delivering fencing, machinery and other things for them to carry out the work. If all had gone to plan would have had the compound near completion now. However, there was five days of 12 hour blockades which has slowed them down tremendously. Here's a quick round up of the events of last week...

The Shell to Sea national day of action is now in progress in Erris with a WSM member at the scene reporting that all work has been stopped, several fences have been pulled down and up to 30 people are now occupying Shell's compound. This despite the deployment of large number of private security who along with Garda have assaulted campaigners in a failed attempt to stop them gaining access to the site.

From 7am to 7pm on Thursday, the road between Shell's Bellanaboy refinery and the Aughoose compound was virtually shut down by local residents and supporters from the Rossport Solidarity Camp. Between a person sat on top of a tractor and then a tripod in the morning, a blockade of the scaffolding company responsible for getting the tripod removed, then a mass of people blocking the road outside the refinery in the afternoon, it was a brilliantly successful day.

Concrete lock-on

On Wednesday 27th July two people locked their arms into a concrete barrel or 'lock-on,' blocking the road between Shell's Bellanaboy refinery and the tunnelling compound in Aughoose. This stretch of road has been the focus of the protests this week with protesters on bikes and on foot blocking tractors in addition to the tripods and lock-ons. read full story / add a comment

This morning, Wednesday 27th July, at 7am, campaigners placed an enormous cement filled barrel or 'lock-on' in the middle of the road between Shell's Ballinaboy refinery and tunnelling compound at Aughoose. Two people are locked on to the barrel and it is expected that it will take the best part of a day before it can be moved. It is now stopping all truck deliveries between the two sites, seriously delaying Shell's work for the third day this week.

Early morning blockade

Tripod roadblock

Monday 25th July Shell intended to begin constructing a permanent compound in Aughoose from which to begin laying the offshore pipeline. However in a statement to Midwest radio Shell commented that works had been 'severely impeded' on Monday. Between a 5½ hour tripod blockade in the morning and loads of protesters on bicycles and on foot, the roads remained shut down for quite a lot of the day. read full story / add a comment

IRMS blocking public road

Friday 22nd July Shell brought a digger and a port-a-cabin into the existing temporary compound in Aughoose. This is in preparation to start building a permanent compound in Aughoose from which they hope to start digging the tunnel for the pipeline which will connect Ballinaboy refinery to the 70 kms of offshore pipeline. They will come in full force on Monday 25th July, please come up to Mayo and show your support! A mass day of action is planned for Friday 29th July, but come up any time. read full story / add a comment

Rossport Solidarity Camp is reporting that this morning Shell started work at the compound in Aughoose where they intend to start digging the tunnel to house a section of the experimental high pressure raw gas pipeline that has been opposed for a decade by the local community. read full story / add a comment

Early Thursday morning at 3am Mayo County Council illegally removed a caravan from private property in Aughoose, opposite Shell's temporary compound. People from the Rossport Solidarity Camp were woken by the noise and ran down to the road in pyjamas to find their caravan being loaded onto a flatbed trailer. The gardaí present said to "take it up with the County Council" if there was a problem. When questioned as to why they were doing it at 3am if the removal of the caravan was lawful, there was no response. read full story / add a comment

At 10.30 am this morning Shell to Sea campaigners stopped work for the second day in a row at the Bord na Móna site at Shramore, near Bangor, Co. Mayo. They are currently on the site and occupying machinery. read full story / add a comment
