Volume six, issue one of Interface, a peer-reviewed online journal produced and refereed by social movement practitioners and engaged movement researchers, is now out. Interface is open-access (free), global and multilingual. Our overall aim is to "learn from each other's struggles": to develop a dialogue between practitioners and researchers, but also between different social movements, intellectual traditions and national or regional contexts.

The Kiev Juntas mercenaries are adept at killing unarmed civilians and wounded soldiers but now they are suffering setbacks. 80 members of the fascist militia "National Guard" were captured by self-defense forces in Lugansk and a junta helicopter was shot down near the city of Slavyansk, killing Fourteen servicemen, including a major-general, Vladimir Kulchitsky. read full story / add a comment

*Now or never!*

*Everyone come to Calais !!!!*

The authorities have decided to destroy the three main camps, which shelter around 700 people. The only prospect for the inhabitants: a pill against scabies and life in the street! There can be no question of repeating the events of 2009, when the eviction of the Afghan jungle resulted in the arrest of hundreds of migrants, their detainment all over France and attempts to deport them to Afghanistan. There can be no question, after five years of persecution, of starting all over again from zero, while the machine of repression gears up once more. Never again! read full story / add a comment

A disturbing trend in the water sector is accelerating worldwide. The new “water barons” — the Wall Street banks and elitist multibillionaires — are buying up water all over the world at unprecedented pace.

State expenditure, as a whole, constitutes an enormous deduction from total surplus value. This largely unproductive spending involves an enormous contraction in the accumulation of capital. It is a deduction that has been growing significantly in the aftermath of the 2nd World War. In the present period of growing problems, regarding the accumulation of capital, there have been continuing feeble attempts to shrink the state or at least reduce the annual rate of state spending. read full story / add a comment

The consequences of the UN's neoliberal absolutism on 10 Dec 2008 has been hidden from the public by the UN and the leadership of the major human rights organizations but its effects are seen in the GFC 2008/9 and the recent rise of repressive regimes at the UN. read full story / add a comment

Are you

- active in social movement struggles but need space to stand back, reflect, recharge?
- involved in community and voluntary activism but feel trapped by the structures?

- clear that social change is central to you but unsure how to build a life around it?
- interested in spending a year with your peers and experienced practitioners?

German imperialism was left in an extremely weakened state militarily after world war 2. It depended on US imperialism and its stooges to help it stand against Stalinism. With the collapse of Stalinism it sought peace and friendly relations with the new Russian power. Within this umbrella its economic power flourished. This is now threatened. So also is the entire stability of Europe. the stupidity of US imperialism as its thrashes about in its death those is no help.

Repost (correction). Dissent within human rights groups grows after article Profound Arrogance at UN, the latter virtually seeing themselves as God when reinventing the UDHR to emphasize elite interests rather than individual rights.

On Monday, the Supreme Court hears arguments between Argentina and holdouts who refused two debt restructuring deals after Argentina defaulted on its debts in 2001. The Supreme Court Justices will determine if predatory hedge fund, NML Capital can obtain information from US Banks that reveal Argentina's holdings in order to target those assets for debt payments. The Obama Administration is siding with Argentina in the case. In the summer, the Supreme Court will also decide if it will hear a much broader case between Argentina and the hedge funds that impacts extreme poverty, official US debt policy and country debt restructuring. read full story / add a comment

Saturday night's concert was part of the International Concert Series presented in The National Concert Hall for 2013/2014. I was looking forward to the concert because the soloist and conductor, Michael Collins, is a totally congenial and engaging musician whom I last saw a number of years ago at the celebrity farewell concert for John Ruddock the famous Dublin/Limerick impresario. The atmosphere in The National Concert Hall that night was unforgettable, the best I ever remember. And Michael Collins had a lot to do with it. Everything was set fair for Saturday night. A very appealing program. A treat in store. read full story / add a comment

The annual International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank meetings are focusing on the role of high debt burdens in both global economic recovery and increasing inequality. The false sense of security of the internet has been completely overturned by the latest security bug to be discovered. A bug in the popular OpenSSL library used by many of the most important and frequently used server sites on the net allows arbitrary chunks of memory to be read remotely from user machines and servers, possibly containing very sensitive data, user tokens, bank details, emails and passwords. What does all this mean and how did it happen and what can we do to protect ourselves? read full story / add a comment
