Workers move en masse against the water charges. Their leaders can no longer hold them back. The left no longer have an excuse not to themselves be able to build a mass force. The left sectarianism, ultra leftism and opportunism of these groups has to be confronted. read full story / add a comment

It may very well be coincidence that just when Israel was starting to take some heat for its atrocious war crimes and policy in Gaza at the end of this summer of 2014 along comes a newly name-minted entity engaging in sensational beheadings for news-grabbing attention. Whether red herring cover just happens to be luck for Israel and the United States in regards to committing and tolerating war crimes or whether there was some conspiracy is not that relevant but what is relevant is that the people of the world cannot let other more recent events erase from memory what the world witnessed in Gaza. read full story / add a comment

It does follow that truth is unattainable. However it is not easily acquired. Its acquisition is a struggle. To strip off illusion and much of ambiguity contemporary society needs replacement by a communal form that precludes social oppression read full story / add a comment

Smothered Greyhounds found dead.- U bet-They die.

The Alliance for Animal Rights (AFAR) wholeheartedly condemns the suffering inflicted on the eleven greyhounds found smothered on Monday on exiting the Irish ferries vessel in France.
As this news comes in the midst of a greyhound Racing crisis in Ireland we hope firstly that no more Greyhounds will suffer at the hands of the Greyhound Industry.

Five years ago, the Irish Anarchist Review replaced Red and Black Revolution as the magazine of the Workers Solidarity Movement. It’s mission was to fill a vacuum in Irish radical circles, to be a publication that raised questions and provoked debate, rather than laying out blueprints for success, as had been the norm in the more theoretical work of the left. It was established at a time where a fightback was believed to be imminent, when the expectation was that as the (economic) beatings continued, morale would improve. read full story / add a comment

The degrees of violence against women and children and the slave labor inflicted on Irish women in the laundries are not caused by some flaw in the Irish character but by the nature of Irish capitalism and its relationship to the anti women dictatorial Catholic church. read full story / add a comment

I have to ask: does the Catholic Church have a death wish?

Hare coursing is a horribly cruel “sport” that is a crime in many jurisdictions. It’s bad enough that the Irish government allows it…but this week pictures circulating on social media (twitter and facebook) clearly show a Catholic Priest officially BLESSING a hare coursing venue. read full story / add a comment

We, in common with all animal welfare/rights/rescue organisations and conservationist groups in Ireland are appalled that another hare coursing season has just been allowed to commence, with public hare-baiting sessions already having being staged at Liscannor in County Clare and Kilflynn in County Kerry.

Parties such as the SP, SWP and Sinn Fein are essentially no different from each other nor from Fine Gael, the Labour Party and Fianna Fail. They are all bourgeois nationalist parties competing for power within the capitalist system. Reformism is still alive and well and embedded within the Irish working class movement. read full story / add a comment

We are all familiar with the monstrous crimes that have been carried out by the Catholic hierarchy in Ireland, the slave labor in the Magadlene prison laundries, the physical and sexual abuse in the children's prisons. The victims have to be given compensation. Not by the taxpayers but from the vast wealth of the Catholic church. More generally responsibility has to be allotted for this. Responsibility lies with different forces, the Catholic hierarchy, the Irish capitalist class, but also the members of the Catholic church. John Throne. read full story / add a comment
