Work was completely halted at Shell’s compound yesterday for over five hours in a great show of resiliance by local campaigners and their supporters. For the past two weeks now, Shell have been attempting to remove masses of peat from the compound in preparation for the tunnel boring machine which is expected to arrive early next year. Progress has been continuously disrupted as protesters brave the winter weather to stop trucks and a determined resistance is building momentum. read full story / add a comment

Friday 25th November saw over 5 hours of Shell's peat and stone haulage completely blocked by campaigners, and no arrests were made. First thing in the morning four campaigners had trucks blocked for over an hour and a half, and later on one person climbed on top of a peat truck outside Shell's Bellanaboy refinery, remaining there for 3 and a half hours stopping all haulage. read full story / add a comment

Shell is removing peat bog from the tunnelling compound in Aughoose and replacing it with stone and gravel from nearby quarries. The increased truck movements has not gone unchallenged. read full story / add a comment

On Tuesday 15th November, An Taisce board member Attracta Uí Bhroin travelled to Belmullet Civic Centre to defend the withdrawal of An Taisce’s legal challenges to the validity of consents for the Corrib Gas project. An Taisce have claimed that their settlement is a 'victory for the environment' despite the fact that the State remains in breach of European environmental directives in proceeding with the Corrib project. The next day campaigners stopped Shell’s peat haulage outside Bellanaboy refinery site to demonstrate that despite An Taisce settling with the State, local campaigners will continue to defend the safety of the community. read full story / add a comment

On Tuesday morning outside Shell's Bellanaboy refinery in Mayo 15 people blocked a Barrett's quarry truck from making a delivery of stone to Shell's tunneling compound in Aughoose, halting all other deliveries for the morning. Today sees the release of the People's Association Watchdog's Submission on Fracking to the government, some of the noted points of concern include the use of TOXIC Chemicals used in the process and the important questions of water pollution, air pollution waterway contamination are also highlighted. One of the main concerns raised in the document is the likely constitutional offences that fracking may endorse. On Wednesday the 14th of September, concerned individuals wishing to support Teresa Treacy arrived at Clonmore, Tullamore. The following morning the supporters learned that no tree felling would be carried out that week and ESB workers had been instructed to leave the site. On the morning of Saturday the 17th of September, Teresa rang from the prison to say that her spirits had been lifted by the news. She has her own cell in the prison thanks to the good graces of the prison staff. After her initial shock she is settling in.
