On the 30th of June 2012, the Citizens Defence Committee held an extremely successful fundraising event in the Dublin Supporters Bar on Parnell Street.
We got off to a great night with a fantastic performance from Irish ballad/folk music band, the Celtic Rebels, who gave it their all and graced us with a brilliant set of traditional Irish music, followed by an excellent rendition of popular Irish rebel songs. Both lads played beautifully and are to be highly recommended by the CDC!
As the night went on and we reached the interval, the long anticipated draw took place.
Among the top prizes was a pair of boxing gloves donated and signed by Anthony (The Pride) Fitzgerald, a rugby ball signed by members of the Irish rugby squad and a beautiful handcrafted bodhrán made by republican prisoners in Portlaoise Gaol. We wish to express our sincere gratitude to all of our comrades for donating the wonderful prizes! read full story / add a comment

“The greatest gift of the garden is the restoration of the five senses” – Hanna Rion
Since the beginning of February 2012 the CDC along with residents from Tom Kelly Flats, set out to create a community garden for the area. Although at the time, we were entering into the unknown scene of gardening and were operating on an experimental and trial and error basis, we’re happy to announce that the initiative was a great success.
Today (8/7/12) the CDC along with residents in Tom Kelly Flats began the first harvest of the community garden. Our first main crop to be harvested was our organic potatoes, we then harvested some of our organic vegetables as well. read full story / add a comment

In the last number of weeks I have been digging in relation to the newly appointed head of SFI Professor Mark Ferguson.
What I have found - seems to be slightly hidden from the Irish taxpayers. It is very subtle but yet constructive.
What I have found is completely fact and can be checked on Google and on various newspapers Ireland and UK. The one in particular I found most helpful was the Manchester Evening News. read full story / add a comment

The Irish educational system is currently failing to provide equal chance, equal access and share to graduate employment opportunities with global employers in Ireland. There seems to be a cultural over-reliance on the English language in Irish society, a lack of awareness importance of being multi-lingual at an early age and language learning time in the classroom is spent on compulsory Irish.

Dublin Primary School brings their young pupils to night of gambling at the dogs.
The O‘Connel’s primary school Parents Association obviously believes that Gambling is a healthy pursuit for 8 to 10 year old schoolchildren. A night at the dogs was arranged by the OCS Parents association on last Thursday 3rd May. A mini-bus and apparently a Gardai community Van shuttled children for a night of gambling at Shelbourne Park to bet on about 12 races as no underage limit applies at Greyhound and Horse tracks in Ireland.
One child won 60-80 euro and the website for the school said the following regarding the event. The O Connell Primary School Dublin website states-‘

The original of The Free was set in a fictional Ireland, and even in this huge updated 4th edition you can recognize streets, and Dublin banter.
The thriller story is more topical than ever, set in an anarchist/feminist social revolution which triumphs due to the collapse of Capitalism caused by climate chaos.
Now it's a world book, with 2035 'Friends on Farsebook', but the first chapters could be the backstreets of Dublin.

This week 75 years ago, the Basquetown of Gernika was virtually destroyed with huge loss of life in a bombing raid by the Condor Legion, a cover name for a detachment of the Luftwaffe loaned to the Spanish generals leading a mutiny against the elected Popular Front government of the Spanish state. The Dublin Basque Solidarity Committee will be commemorating this event on Friday 27th (the actual anniversary is the 28th). read full story / add a comment

This is not a typical movie review describing the movie, plot, characters, and themes, as well as celebritizing each actor by naming every other movie appeared in, etc., and yet have very “little” to say about how the movie might relate to real life. We will refer to an American writer, namely Chris Hedges, Pulitzer Prize winning author of several important books, to help contextual this movie. Herein we visit a few major “themes” as related to social and political issues in the real life of the audience as drama of human history including that as compares to ancient Rome.
