The Water charges protester Stephen Bennett will be in jail for one month tomorrow. He was not convicted of anything, instead the courts attempted to impose 'protest ban' bail conditions which he has continued to refuse to accept. Garda have attacked an occupation of Fingal council offices by water charges protesters causing injuries like the one pictured.

We understand these happened when the Garda smashed a plate glass door in on top of the protesters who were occupying the entrance.

According to one of those attacked posting to the Balbriggan page "Garda have attached 3 of us and shattered the fingal county council office doors on top of us picture to follow. If you listen to the video u will hear the glass crashing on top of us" The video is at https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=633082310156899 read full story / add a comment

The refusal of Dublin City Council to deny the Dublin Suicide Prevention Project with a tiny grant for an educational information leaflet from the recent council community grant awards has been described as “pathetic” by award winning suicide prevention campaigner Wayne Flanagan Tobin. Director of the Dublin Suicide Prevention Project (DSPP) Flanagan Tobin has secured many services for communities as far back as 2008 when he was instrumental in obtaining a Suicide Prevention Officer for Dublin-Mid Leinster with his then group “Wicklow Against Suicide” and has achieved many awards for his work in Dublin including the South West Inner City Network (SWICN) last October for his voluntary work.

In 2012 public opposition forced the ditching of a plan for a "retirement village" on the side of the Dublin mountains, isolated from services and public transport and cut off by the M50, in an area normally zoned for agriculture and public amenity and widely used by the public. A previous plan for a private school on the site had been rejected for similar reasons in 2005. After the 2014 local elections the plan came back in a lightly tweaked form, with the developer's sister among a number of newly elected councillors supporting the project. A proposal to amend the development plan to include this project is due to be voted on this Tuesday evening, February 10th. Meanwhile some interesting shenanigans have developed. read full story / add a comment
