Two co-ordinated gun attacks on 4 January 1976 in British Occupied Ireland, shot dead two unarmed members of the Reavey family and three members of the O'Dowd family, with another two wounded, one of them died a month later. These murders were part of a string of sectarian attacks on Catholics and Irish nationalists by an alliance of British soldiers and British police officers. Billy McCaughey from the police Special Patrol Group, admitted taking part and accused another British police officer, of being involved. His colleague, John Weir, said two British police officers and a British soldier were involved The O'Dowd and Reavey murders, in what became known as the murder triangle, were a major factor, in young men and women like 19 year old Martin Corey from nearby Lurgan, joining the IRA, to defend their communities from British State terrorism. read full story / add a comment

Research commissioned by a group of British, backbench, Tory MPs conclude, that European judges have ruled more than 270 cases taken against Britain, has “breached a Convention right”. The final report, written by Robert Broadhurst, a legal researcher, found that since Britain signed up to the European Court of Human Right’s jurisdiction in 1966, there are more than 350 rulings on UK violation of human rights.The number of judgments made against the UK violating human rights stands at 271, against only 86 ruling otherwise”. read full story / add a comment

In the van, I was pepper sprayed several times while handcuffed behind my back and pinned to the ground. I was kept in a cell for about two hours before being released without charge. Despite the multiple cover-ups between the Garda Commissioner and the Justice Minister there still lingers an undercurrent of malpractice and deceit, which could only be resolved with an independent investigation. The astonishing tapes show senior manager John Bowe, who had been involved in negotiations with the Central Bank, laughing and joking as he tells another senior manager, Peter Fitzgerald, how Anglo was luring the State into giving it billions of euro. Mr Fitzgerald had not been involved in the negotiations with the Central Bank and has confirmed he was unaware of any strategy or intention to mislead the authorities. Mr Bowe, in a statement last night, categorically denied that he had misled the Central Bank.

The audio recordings are from the bank's own internal telephone system and date from the heart of the financial crisis that brought the State to its knees in Sept 08.

Anglo itself was within days of complete meltdown – and in the years ahead would eat up €30bn of taxpayer money. On Thursday 20/6/13 a number of Protestors attended the Dail in Kildare Street to repeat their claims of widespread criminal wrongdoing and corruption within the Garda Siochana (police) and Legal System in Ireland. The Protestors met with members of the Dail (Parliament) who promised to do something about the shocking stories they heard. OSSL claim that their company was a supplier to Shell in respect of the Corrib Gas Project. They allege that acting on Shell’s instructions, OSSL has distributed bribes on Shell’s behalf to parties connected with the project, including the Irish police force (the Garda) who have been the subject of serious accusations of wrong doing by environmental activists protesting against the project. SPANISH chef lost his sense of taste and had his skull reinforced with screws after being struck with a golf club and wooden samurai sword in a savage street assault.

Jorge Roca (40), from Valencia in Spain, insisted he still loves Ireland and Cork despite the unprovoked attack that left him fighting for his life.
Shane Cotter (20) of Annmount Cross, Friars Walk, Cork, who has 49 previous convictions, was jailed for three years for assault causing serious harm.

''Danny O'Brien (20) of Brandon Court, Dillons Cross, Cork, who produced the golf club used by Cotter to attack Mr Roca and who has 84 previous convictions, was jailed for 18 months for violent disorder.

The Spaniard told the Irish Independent he was disappointed with the sentences. "I am not a judge. I am a chef. But that was not really very good," he said.

Cotter later told Gardai: "I wanted to do damage. I was in a temper. I wanted to kill him."
